A10 - SD card phone storage issue: lost pictures

Unfortunately I used the first time a sd card for a smartphone and didn’t recognise that this is such a problem. So I haven’t backed up my data and now nearly all the pictures of my 2,5 weeks old newborn are gone. I could restore some of them via a smartphone-app (easeus). Recavur doesn’t work as it cannot detect my Fairphone 3+ as a USB device.

My problem in detail:

I have a Fairphone 3+ /e/OS with Android 10
SanDisk SD Card 256 GB now (unfortunately) as internal storage

Is there a possibility to get the lost pictures back? I tried it also with easeUS MobiSaver for Android via Windows 10 Pro but this software doesn’t work as well. I always get the message I should root the Fairphone 3+ and I don’t know how to this respectively wheter this is a good idea. USB mass storage is mentioned as an another possibility but as I found out this option doesn’t not exist under Android 10.

Is there any other possibility to get the lost pictures back? Does anyone have a clue how to get easeUS MobiSaver for Android via Windows 10 Pro or Recavur running?

I am totally aware that I have to reset my phone. Is there a manual for reseting the Fairphone 3+ /e/ OS?

Thanks a lot for any help/suggestions!

Dear alienor,

I cannot help you but such things seem to happen. Really sorry to hear.

@Manoj: Maybe it is something the developers need to look at? Fairphone specific?

The default android system question " internal / external " is ambiguous for a non android power user.

dear tyxo,

thank you very much for your answer and the link to the other topic…i’ll keep trying…maybe i will get a few more pictures of my little daughter back…in the end i have now learned a lot and will regularly save new pictures in a cloud.

have a nice evening!

It could be automatized for some dedicated folders

@alienor
The most important thing is to test it intensively. Others reported problems with the camera too.
Syncing to the cloud is smart.
Just check your images once taken.

You can also sent them to an email account. I use Delta Chat (file attachment) for this purpose every now in a while.

For me (S8 from /e/) everything works flawlessly.

Kind regards
tyxo

We do have bugs reported around files saved on external cards getting lost.
This is more painful as in @alienor 's case where some of the photos of the baby are lost. A user had shared similar issue being reported on the Fairphone forum as well. Maybe we should add a warning when a user saves to the sd card. Save on the phone and sync with the cloud is the safest option while the developers work to resolve this issue.

thanks a lot again, tyxo! i tried several things - also some of the software which are suggested in your linked topic…in addition i asked in a shop which is specialised in data recovery. in fact there are no more pics on the internal memory of the fairphone…maybe there a some pics on the sd card but they said the chance is 10 % that there could be some…so i think i am thankfull for the few pics i could recover and the pics which we have sent to family and friends and leave it at that. @Manoj & @piero i will set up my fairphone and sync my pictures with the cloud in future - using no sd card for the phone. but i think a warning when a user tries to use a sd card would be very helpfull.

many thanks for your help and replys and kind greetings from austria!
