I guess you are aware of the changes that Google wants to bring in the Play integrity services api. I have read several news about it in the last months and I see that they are pushing a change.org for Google to stop being so draconian with these APIs that disadvantage the world of custom roms.
I opened this post to see what is known about these changes, how it can affect /e/OS and what they think about it. I like /e/OS precisely because it is the ROM that has more “stock” compatibility with banking and state apps, which are the ones I use, I clarify that I do not use any gapps.
thanks for the petition link - 10k users is not nothing.
EU forgot to point the Digital Markets Act at national governments and designate them as gatekeepers /s
Seen posts on identity / digital government apps not working because of Play Integrity from France, Italy and Austria - I understand why they employ the techniques, but they should acknowledge the detriment it causes.
(there are some PI posts in the forum, this was an early one. It will come up more often as Safetynet shuts down January 2025 and newly published app updates target Play Integrity instead)
Interestingly, there seems to be a first implementation for (a part of?) Play Integrity API in microg, see [enhancement] Implementation of Play Integrity API · Issue #2611 · microg/GmsCore · GitHub. We will have to wait until it is merged, released, and the corresponding version of microg finally added to /e/OS. Moreover, I cannot say whether there may be problems if the bootloader is unlocked etc. We will have to wait and see. Still, the situation could be worse, too.
EDIT: Please be aware that the /e/OS developers usually do not monitor the forum posts. Maybe @Manoj can forward @soldan’s question to the development team? Or maybe a GitLab issue should be created?
