Android Auto on FP6 running /e/OS v.3.0.2

Hello,

I am running /e/OS v.3.0.2 on a Fairphone 6 and was wondering if the setup procedure for android auto available here (How to setup Android Auto with /e/OS?) is also applicable to my phone/OS. The setup procedure seems to concern /e/OS v2.0.

Has anybody made the experience with Android Auto on v3.0 with a Fairphone 6?

the method is not tied to a device and it was introduced in v2.0 ā€œand upā€, give it a try. The feedback is mixed (probably discount threads older >1yr)

Thanks for your feedback!

Did you get it running?
Mine does make contact but I get an error:
Communication error 22 - Android Auto was not pre-installed on this device.

I do use however stubs instead of the official G-apps, not sure fs this is messing with it.

I installed the official apps as in the documentation, but it shows the same error. Did you get it to work?

Same issue here.

But found on internet another with FP6 but without e/OS that could not connect with Android.

Would love to hear when anybody has it working (and how)

I actually haven’t had the chance to try it out so far. Will let you know.

I actually don’t own a car but I regularly rent one. I’ll let you know as soon as I get the chance. But it won’t be before next October.

I have the same issue, it doesn’t work on my FP6 with the error ā€œCommunication error 22 - Android Auto was not pre-installed on this device.ā€

My hope is that it is an integrity issue (FP6 does not validate integrity checks yet) and that it will be solved with 3.1 where they integrated some integrity fixes (for Revolut in the issue, but it seems they have improved integrity checks, so it will probably solve things for a lot of other apps) :crossed_fingers:

same issue here. UK user. It’s what I miss most about using my old phone (I was on iOS before). I used to be able to just start my car and my phone would auto connect, and I could play my music and use Magic Earth to navigate.

Now, with my FairPhone 6 on latest e/OS version, I can’t do this. I don’t want to download google apps to make it work… so I need to buy a little dashboard mount to use maps to navigate but still can’t play any music from my phone, from the native music app, deezer, soundcloud or mixcloud through my car. Even when USB is connected.

I think this should be a priority to resolve - I’m sick of listening to commercial radio lol - definitely need my music!

The FP6 makes a bluetooth connection with my car with no problem.

Hi there, i have the same issue, communication error 22, hope for a solution coming soon.

Hello,
I have the same issue. Fairphone 6 e/os/v 3.0.4.

Connecting with bluetooth and calling works, but not possible to connect to Android Auto even with a cable. I can’t listen to music from my phone or use a map app.

I tried How to setup Android Auto with /e/OS? and get communication error 22.

According to this https://xdaforums.com/t/gsi-fix-communication-error-22-on-android-auto.4456645/ the issue is that Andoid Auto is installed as removable user app, instead of a built-in system app. Rooting the phone and reinstalling the app as a system app would solve the problem. However rooting my phone is a risk I’m not willing to take. It will problably cause problems with my banking app.

I hope there will be an update soon to solve this issue.

I’ve been meaning to put in a ticket for this for a bit. Ticket opened here: Android Auto Missing Stub (#8843) Ā· Issues Ā· e / Backlog Ā· GitLab

Thanks for doing this

Ok, I finally got the opportunity to actually test it. No problem to connect using Bluetooth for music and calls. But no chance with android auto using a USB cable. Iā€˜ve tried 3 different data-capable cables but always got the same error message.

i seem to have the same issue with /e/os v3.1.4.
i followed the instruction and installed all google stuff but that did not work out as intended.
I have no connection to my car radio (carplay with iphone worked great) and I also can’t play music.

i hope that there will be a fix soon, because I realy love my FP 6

FP3 user here.

Android Auto used to work on my phone up to Android 14. After the upgrade to Android 15, I’ve been having the same problem — error 22. After a few searches, it appears that even phones running stock Android have also been having that problem, and that it could be caused by the Android August update.

Hoping that it’s just that and that we won’t have extra hurdles to deal with owing to using /e/OS.
