Android Auto with /e/?

Hi,

Thank you, I have now looked at the Android Auto documentation and enabled unknown sources.
I now have the ability to add more apps from the phone like Magic Earth Maps, Signal etc.

Bluetooth call audio is now working between the moto g32 phone and EONON headunit which is great.

Hi

I have not installed android auto yet. I am a bit reluctant to install so many google apps on my phone. Now, that it is proven that Magic Earth can be used within android auto is it then mandatory to install google maps to get it working?

Let me check with the developers and get back.

Hi,
Did Magic Earth work for you? I have added it as an additional source but it doesn’t work when connected to my car

It seems to default to google maps so not sure how to replace google maps with magic earth. Still haven’t been able to add an offline music player.

I have my phone mounted on the windscreen so tend to use android auto mostly for phone calls.

Having the phone mounted allows Magic Earth to use ADAS through the phone camera and also easier than looking down at Speed limits and directions etc.

Hello,

I was able to launch maps (Magic Earth) with Android Auto after adding “unknown apps” with developers settings, as it was suggested.

But I only have a displayed message : “no new messages during this drive”.

A thread on GrapheneOS forum suggests to install Magic Earth from Google Play, directly from Google Play app to solve it.
https://discuss.grapheneos.org/d/11726-magic-earth-with-android-auto

Is it possible to use another solution ? I don’t want to install Google play and use a Google account.

Thanks.

Interesting link … I would treat this as “Information”.

But we do not need to react to this Information  Is it intrusive?

The problem is that Maps is not usable on my device (Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE / Codename : Lisa) to get maps and driving instructions on the car screen. It only show this message, without map, direction and everything expected for that app.

Google Maps works well, but I don’t want to use Google products. And OrganicMaps and OSMAnd are not available with android auto…

Sorry, I underestimated your use of the word only

I wonder if you can get a log by means of

I think devs would appreciate such a report; https://doc.e.foundation/support-topics/report-an-issue

Magic Earth itself has a debug mode and a built in Feedback method described https://www.magicearth.com/faq-en/ under “How to send a debug log?”

Please do the following steps:

  • enable debug mode from Settings > Advanced
  • close and restart the app
  • reproduce the issue
  • send the log via Settings > Support > Get in touch > Send feedback The debug log (and any crash logs) will be attached to the e-mail.

They may have an interest in working on a fix.

Adding (repeated) support topic https://doc.e.foundation/support-topics/android-auto

I believe organic maps now supports android auto:

https://organicmaps.app/faq/app/how-to-use-android-auto/

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.organicmaps&hl=en (android auto mentioned in about app)

Anyone here tried to fool AA using the suggested G-apps stub? Since /e/OS is a de-Googled operating system, that doesn’t make any sense to install 3 G-apps only to make AA work…

“We are exploring ways to bypass those requirements.”

/e/OS uses the sn-00-x approach - https://gitlab.e.foundation/e/os/android_frameworks_base/-/merge_requests/197 - reading that README will explain how it works.

Do not think that would be taken up. All the same, will check with the developers and get back with their response.
