AppLounge cannot find any apps, stuck in endless loop

AppLounge no longer finds any apps nor categories.

Steps to reproduce:

(1) Run AppLounge

OBSERVED BEHAVIOUR
(1) AppLounge attempts to load app list, game list, category list, updates list. None of them work. AppLounge is stuck in endless loop, finds nothing. Eventually it is possible to break the loop by repeatedly tapping on screen on one of the “apps” that are never fully displayed.

EXPECTED BEHAVIOUR
(1) AppLounge opens start screen and after few seconds shows list of apps, categories (if selected), updates (if available) etc.

I have cleaned memory, cache etc. of AppLounge and started again. AppLounge offers to chose between anonymous account (which I have always done before and it worked well) and Google account. Selecing Google ends up in other error screen that address does not exist for that site. Error message is:
“Webseite nicht verfügbar
Die Webseite unter
https://accounts.google.com/EmbeddedSetup konnte nicht geladen werden, weil
net::ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED”
Selecting anonymous mode again ends up in endless loop, as described above.

At the moment I cannot install any apps via AppLounge.

Please let us know which version of /e/OS you have installed, maybe it is just too old.

… better still App Lounge version reveals even more … both App Lounge and /e/OS (on a recent build).

App Lounge version: 2.13.5
/e/ OS version: 2.9-a14-20250323478433-community-ocean

AppLounge: 2.13.5
/e/OS: 2.9-s-20250321478216-official-dreamlte

I just tested and App Lounge was OK here …

but in the situation described I find that one must Clear storage and (maybe reboot); when one returns one must again agree T&C.

It may be an added issue that one must not keep asking the same thing. In other words “Please try later”.

I tried this:

  • Delete AppLounge data and cache, then run AppLounge - no success.
  • Reboot phone, then run AppLounge, select anonymous login - no success.

I have the same problem since updating to eos v2.9 and app lounge is 2.13.5.
Once in maybe 40 or 50 attempts I get through, the rest of the time I have moving diagonal lines for ever or ‘Can’t connect. Check your internet connection’.

I have had the diagonal animated “empty page” which I associate with a failure to “fully connect”. Please test with all Advanced Privacy turned off. Other suggestions here App Lounge F.A.Q.

It may be interesting to test whether App Lounge will work better on home Wi-Fi, mobile data or some other Wi-Fi, some carriers may route the line in some unhelpful way.

I’ve just tried this.

Switch to mobile data from home WLAN (WLAN off): ==> AppLounge works again.
Switch back to WLAN (mobile data off) ==> AppLounge does not work.

Not sure what could be problem with home WLAN, as this used to work just fine and I have not changed any WLAN settings.

Just thinking out loud and maybe technically very loosely, is your ISP providing some “divert” (??) and / or I think we are familiar with the idea that most data comes in packets with gaps such that the content can be patched together fully readable. My thinking is that App Lounge requires a very clear line so that token exchange and maybe other checks are done with no gaps big enough to spoil the timing of the exchange bearing in mind that some faking is being done on our behalf by /e/OS.

Not sure what you mean by that. I have had App Lounge working fine until a few days ago with WLAN with no issues, apart from the categories-have-duplicates issue also reported elsewhere and the issue that I cannot (and still can’t) download and install some apps from the store (my example was dilbert, but there are others, too). Behaviour of AppLounge changed over night really.

Actually, the “faking”-thing has been worrying me because what if Google closes this workaround for anonymous logins and app downloads in the playstore? What if Google decides to be stricter with their policy and deny any anonymous login attempts and permit valid personal Google accounts only?

What led me to assume that there cannot be an issue with WLAN vs. mobile internet was that there was a server access issue displayed at some location around the settings, debugs whatever which currently I cannot reproduce to post it here.

Exactly … I expect this happens dynamically and systematically as Google suffers loss of revenue due to users who do not actually want to be involved with their Advertising Agency.
