Are there even any alternatives?

Are there any other services that bundle Email and Nextcloud without any admin work on the user side or should I just use Proton? I apologize if this isn’t under the right place, i wasn’t sure whether this should go under Community Forum, Murena Cloud or User Queries.
1st of all I want to make it clear, i do not mean to insult anyone on the Dev team or any users.
I became a Murena and /e/OS user 2 years ago shortly after I switched to Linux since Proton lacks a lot of Linux apps not to mention no Contacts on Android or any Notes software and I didn’t enjoy self hosting Nextcloud on my Pi because I just want to manage a single user account, not a user nextcloud account + admin account + linux server OS login and then still need a separate way to handle email (I hated having an MXroute Store accoun + MXroute admin accoun + MXroute email login). Unfortunately like many others, this downtime has been unacceptable for me, I had no access to any of my emails including meetings, delivery tracking links and verification codes for the courier, providers with outdated 2FA etc and I cant login to any service because my passwords are unavailable. Im not even a business customer yet I lost a lot of money, I havent been a /e/os user since the last update dissapointed me, Its not that they did something terrible with the OS but they hyped it for a while and none of the features Ive been watiting for a while came (improved launcher, better and less buggy App Lounge, disabling widgets, accent color customization, more up to date Android Versions and maybe Material You) so i switched to Iode because with them I can uninstall preinstalled bloat apps and I much prefer Aurora Store to the App Lounge but Ive still been using Murena cloud with DAVX5, Nextcloud passwords app and IMAP/SMTP since i have no need for actual syncing of my files. Personally I cant bring myself to continue relying on /e/ for the foreseeable future, maybe if in a year or two a cool new update rolls around with enticing features and they’ve haven’t had any other reliability issues I’ll be tempted enough but right now I’m switching but even though I have a backup Proton account, it doesnt integrate well with Gnome on Linux so I’d rather use a Nextcloud based alternative to continue using Iotas, Errands, Geary, Passwords and all the other Gnome Online Accounts Apps like Calendar, Contacts and Nautilus.
Is there anything similar to /e/cloud or Murena Cloud that includes both Email and Nextcloud in a single user account?

Hello,
you could try

There is nextcloud suite and also the email service included. But as i know so far there is no password manager, just tasks, calendar, contacts and mail and office.

Maybe take a look. Hope it helps.

Asking for alternatives to a product in the official support forum for that product is a bold choice!

But reasonable after such a disruptive outage IMHO.

If I were starting now, I would probably go with a paid account at mailbox.org. But I’ve got the e.email address and the paid-for online storage (with the files still available / accessible, if not yet sync-able, on my computers) so I’ll stick with it for now. Loyalty and inertia only go so far though, and another mess like the current one could see me jumping ship.

I think it’s tactless, take it to Reddit, or Slashdot. This is a forum for /e/ and murena. There’s plently of places to discuss moving to alternatives. What next, a wiki post for migrating to 365?

You’re entitled to your opinion. Whether or not it is ‘tactless’, this is still clearly a valid topic for discussion amongst /e/ users. I don’t think ‘tact’ has ever been a requirement for discussions in these forums

I’m not aware of any reddit or Slashdot forums devoted to /e/OS.

…which recently had a very serious outage, which is still going on, which affects almost all e/e/ suers, and which could probably have been handled better (even though I’m sure the team are doing their best). This is where most of /e/'s users ‘hang out’, and is therefore IMHO a very appropriate forum - arguably the most appropriate forum - to discuss responses to the outage. If you don’t feel comfortable participating in the discussion because you think it is ‘tactless’, then no-one is forcing you to contribute. You can even set Tracking for this thread to ‘Muted’ so you wont even know the discussion is continuing.

This is nothing to do with /e/ os, that’s the whole point. This is to do with alternative hosting providers for eCloud. There are many and varied places to discuss managed hosting. Obviously the only acceptable correct answer is selfhosting. You should set it up and offer it as an alternative to the people unhappy with the current service.

But don’t get upset when people start discussing spending their money with alternatives in the support forum you’ve set up for them!

Well… Ive tried Mailbox but unfortunately it’s woefully slow for me so I’ll check out Disroot next
Also thanks to the people who provided suggestions, Im using Proton for now but its not really the most seamless experience

It is everything to do with /e/, their users, and how to respond to the outage affecting /e/'s services.

No. The original post asks about …

… and doesn’t mention 'alternative hosting providers for eCloud`

I’m sorry but I can’t follow your logic here. There are several ‘answers’, and who is defining ‘correct’ and / or ‘acceptable’? The original question was about ‘other services’. ‘selfhostingmay be an alternative (see the post title), but I don't think it counts as aservice, certainly not one without any admin work on the user side’. The original post mentions Proton as a possible alternative (to /e/'s services, in case you had forgotten this is about alternatives to /e/). Mailbox.org and Disroot are clearly other alternatives, and all 'acceptable (in my view) answers to the original question.

And I’m not the one getting ‘upset’ that people are discussing the alternatives to a service in the forum provided by that service

The logic is: Please don’t antagonise the people who provide this space, they don’t need this and you don’t need to do this here. Take this discussion elsewhere.

I literally opened the discussion with: " 1st of all I want to make it clear, i do not mean to insult anyone on the Dev team or any users."
as a paying user who actually enjoyed the cloud service whilst i was able to use it, i in no way intent to antagonize anyone here. before i even opened the thread i made sure it wasnt against any community rules and even apologized because i wasnt sure if this is the right subforum tag/category

I am not trying to antagonise anyone. And there is only one person so far who seems to be antagonised, and I don’t believe they are anything to do with the /e/ foundation who provide these forums

I suspect most /e/ staff - apart from Manoj whose job it is - have more important things to do than spend their time in these forums, which are mostly aimed at users.

Short answer - no!
I can’t think of anywhere else where /e/ users affected by the outage - and who might be considering alternatives to /e/‘s services - congregate. Until and unless the forum moderators say otherwise, I will continue to discuss the issue here. If you don’t like that feel free to either mute the thread or - if you rally believe its s unacceptable - to flag it for the moderators’ attention,( although I don’t believe any post here count as `Off-topic, Inappropriate, Spam, Illegal or ‘Something else’

I am using portknox.net
This is a very reliable nextcloud provider which I have been using for years. I had my calender on murena.io for a year and bougt some additional GB, just to backup this company. Since my calenders are work related I just switched back to portknox.

tactless?

For me it is tactless to run a service without having reliability in mind. See the announcement:

The reason behind this outage is related to our storage infrastructure that is getting old while the number of murena.io active users has grown a lot during the past two years.

An infrastructure evolution and consolidation was planned, but last week, our current infrastructure lost some storage nodes and switched to a degraded mode.

Obviously it was well known that an outage was about to happen…

It is an excellent initiative to offer a degoogelized android including a replacement for the google infrastructure. But it has to be as reliable as google is. Otherwise the success of project is in danger.

OK, DIsroot has been perfect for me thanks
their Sign Up process sucks ass tho

–edit: realized theyre missing passwords :sob:

Maybe filen.io as some kind of an alternative?

Thanks but Files Storage/Syncing are actually the feature I need the least
Ive switched to Disroot for Contacts+Email+Notes+Calendar+Tasks and Firefox for Passwords+ Email Aliases + VPN so Ive marked this thread as solved already.
Proton.Me in theory is much better since they have everything (except Notes) included in one single subscription which in the end comes out cheaper but unfortunately for me their Linux offering sucks and they dont have a contacts app for android that all my apps can view/access/read
The apps I need most are in this order: email > contacts > passwords > email aliasing > Notes > Calendar > Tasks > VPN

Proton has basic Notes within Pass and recently purchased the StandardNotes app
