I want to utilise /e/OS, because it’s FOSS, more stable than Fairphone’s FPOS, and provides an issue tracker (GitLab). However, I don’t want to lose the GMS APIs that MicroG cannot yet emulate, etcetera:
Therefore, I want to install GMS instead. Is replacing preinstalled MicroG with GMS feasible with this OS?
I’m aware that I may lose SaferyNet / Play Integrity attestation. However, I presume that it shan’t be worse than what I experience with WayDroid on postmarketOS, because unlike there, I can install Magisk.
@piero, little things, like how /e/OS utilises GitLab for contributions over Gerrit, and provides a Discourse forum. Ultimately, I’m trying to ascertain which options are available to me, because some AOSP distributions’ modifications, like CalyxOS’s, render replacing these components infeasible. [1]
The rest of the problems are, however, severe bugs in MicroG, and why I never choose it over a 1st-party implementation of the Play Services Framework if possible.
together with a list of what at first sight look like Google dependent apps. One at a time, am I wrong?
Maybe … in due course micro-G with some help might start to be able to meet some of your desires.
@aibd, until that point, I can’t rely upon it. I contribute where I can, by testing it in VMs. [1] However, considering that I solely ever work in government employment, the software that I rely upon needs to be reliable.
Otherwise, I’d be running non-AOSP, GlibC Linux, like postmarketOS. [2]
