Can't install /e/ on CMF 1

Hello, I’am new here. At first excuse my very bad english.

I want to tried /e/. After reading a lot and of course tehe “easy” web installer i bought an Nothing phone CMF 1.
I want to install /e/ with the web installer, but every trying stops a the last step, , restart in the boot loader modus.
Everytime: " Error on step: connect-bootloader

Cannot execute command connect bootloader
The device is not connected Failed to connect: Cannot connect Bootloader
Proposal: Check connection and that no other program is using the phone and retry."

I tried it on Linux (LMDE 6), Win 11, with Brave and Chromium, at first Nothing OS 2.6, now updated to nothing OS 3.0.

Always the the same problem.

I never used android, i always had a iphone, so my knowledge is not realy god, but i would gladly if anyone could help me

Hello @astep, welcome to the /e/ forum.

First forget about the called “easy” but not eficient web tools,
Simply follow the guide Install /e/OS on a Nothing Nothing CMF Phone 1 - “tetris”

you just need to install the “fastboot” tool (included in “platform-tools”), then copy / paste command to

  • unlock the bootloader (if not already did)
  • run the install-script (on windows you will need Git-Bash for that…)
Ask here if you encountred issues…

Thank you for your answer!
So i have to install the fastboot tool on my windows 11. I created a folder Platform-tools and double clicked on fastboot.exe. Nothing happened. Then i try to the command line adb reboot bootloader. The answer was that adb is unknown.
Excuse me, i think i need help step by step

(It is 2 steps easier on linux)

But let’s go for Windows !

The Windows instructions from /e/ documentations are hiden :
Installing adb and fastboot on Windows PC
you could have seen the Gogol instructions…

You need to Add adb path to the environment variables (that is complicate on windows…)

Also using Windows, you will need “git-bash”
Git - Downloading Package

Thank you again,
i installed adb and fastboot and Git. Now there is a new and other error:
" Error on step: device-detection
Cannot execute command connect adb
The device is not connected Failed to connect: Cannot connect ADB Cannot read properties of undefined (reading ‘deserial’)
Proposal: Check connection and that no other program is using the phone and retry."

This sounds like you returned to Web Installer … ?? … please clarify.

The previous instructions from @piero are to help you with CLI manual instructions.

When you follow manual instructions and are in difficulties you can send a copy of your command prompt output and we can help. Conversely with eosinstaller there is no known log with which one can see progress.

[1] Edit. Whichever method you choose maybe this applies in your case [Solved] Windows does not see my phone in Fastboot mode. This error “Error on step: device-detection” might actually be " Windows does not recognise my phone in Fastboot mode".

Yes, i returned to the web installer. My mistake! So i try the guide now completly

I think personally @astep (not a mistake, just asking for clarification) it worth trying to rule out the Windows drivers issue I linked as [Solved] with the Web Installer before moving on to manual CLI install page.

Hello,
i started the CMF 1 in the fastboot mode. The device is not recognized, i look with adb.exe, it is not recognized in Explorer, also the flash_tetris_factory.sh find no device. There are no updates available. I dont know what i can do now

So do you see :warning: Problem device ?

If yes your Windows machine has a Drivers issue. I guess you will need to spend more time on the Windows driver solution.

Is to be expected.

If

fastbboot devices

fails, then so will all other fastboot commands.

@astep this is related to “windows device manager” to monitor driver problems
Then use “Windows Update” with optionnal drivers update enable, to solve problem…

I can see the device if it is in android modus, but i can`t see it anywere in the fastboot modus. I think there is no connection then

This also is expected. You are still not telling us if Windows Device manager sees this as a Problem device in Fastboot mode.

If yes, the problem is Windows and / or your machine.

Again, if yes …

No, in the fastboot mode windows does not see a problem device. just not any device

In this case you should try a different cable. There have been reports that a data cable can appear to transmit data fine but will fail with this sort of work. Also avoid any USB hub and use a USB port soldered to the PC motherboard.

This doesnt helped too.
Im disappaered. Ì bought the CMF 1 Phone because of the “easy” web installer. It does not work. It seems for me like a tricky advertising. This all is now too complicated for me. So it is time for me to give up.
It thank you all very much for your help an enthusiasm, but i have not the time and the knowledge to install /e/

As been evocated in post N°4,
It is easier on windows, no driver issues…

Hello again,
i managed it with Linux Mint. Now /e/ OS 2.9 is on my CMF 1. It was very tricky for me, and only possible of course all your help and ideas. Thanks
