Cant write notes anymore (synchronization error)

Whenever I open the Notes app (Version 3.7.1), I get the error message ‘synchronization error’ and all notes that I have written recently now just say

error: OCP\Encryption\Exceptions\GenericEncryptionException

What can I do? I am using /e/OS v1.16, and whenever I try to update, all open windows just close, so I have no idea how to actually update to the most recent version

GenericEncryptionException and Notes first came up in August in the forum here - Notes note gone due to NextCloud error

I looked at different Notes bugs in the past, but that one was new. If you host your own nextcloud it could be easier to pinpoint while looking at the httpd accesslog
