I’m seriously considering buying a CMF Phone 1 with /e/ preinstalled, but I would like to know the general experience with this phone (bought from store or installed at home). Is the OS working fine, bugs…? Battery life?
I don’t quite like the size, it seems a bit too big to use with one hand, but I can’t find any other reasonably small/recent/decent phones in the store with micro SD card and 8gb ram.
Because i Iiterally don’t have time to read all the installl instructions and install it by myself, and risk to get stuck at some point and then have to re read forums to solve it (I dont want to give you details about personal life, but please believe me that i dont have time).
In the past I achieved to manually install /e/, but the amount of time and effort it required to me was enormous, and my current life doesnt allow me that amount of time i used to have in the past.
I am using my Murena CMF 1 with e OS pre-installed since about 5 weeks on a daily basis.
I cannot tell you any negatives in regards to both software and hardware.
My former phone was as big as CMF1. So I was used to use it with both hands.
I have installed /e/OS in my new CMF Phone 1 and I am very happy.
I think it is a very good alternative to Android and I want to contribute somehow to better and ethical software tools. I don’t have the knowledge to build anything but I can use and try software, learn and promote it. Well… That’s something, I guess.
The main “issue” I found so far is the camera quality. Not a problem for me, but it is niticeable that /e/OS lacks some of the optimizations that other propietary softwares have. That’s something I was ready for.
I am having some problems with the authomatic app review from exodus in the App Lounge. If I change the VPN it works for a while, sometimes. Does anybody know what is happening?
I am talking all my friends about how they can get away from Google and I want to fix any problems to show them
I’m new here and french (so forgive my poor english), and i wanted to share my thoughts about e/os on CMF Phone 1.
I spent the last 24 hours installing e/os on my brand new CMF Phone (i bought it just for that, I’m using a Nothing Phone 1 but wanted to increase my data privacy. I choose the CMF Phone because I like the Nothing products, and because it’s one of the newest phone supported by e/os). I’m using my phone for personnal and professionnal use (double sim is essential), so calls, mails, messages, photos for professional use, news apps, web browsing and music. No social media and no gaming. So that CMF Phone 1 seemed to be strong enough for full-filling these purposes.
The installing process, trhough the web interface was easy (even if I had some troubles with the Windows ADB driver, but someone in this forum gave the solution (windows update), thx to him).
So far, without any sim card installed, this e/os works great. But i think that the phone kinda…sucks !
I didn’t use it with nothing OS, just went through the installing process quickly after buying it, to get straight to the e/os installer, but :
the colors are awfull (very HDR-isch), and i didn’t manage to get them better in the settings.
All the vertical endless browsing apps such as “Le Monde” or “Dealabs” are stuttering (but not the web browser or the settings, weird…)
The camera is…i’m not exprecting much about my camera, just to get clean and unpersonnal pictures for my work, but damn, i feel like being 15 years back with the one provided with e/os. Tried a gCam apk, it’s a bit better, but barely acceptable…
No LDAC available, only the basic SBC for bluetooth output. Well, can i live with that ?
Otherwise, my advice, i changed the launcher for that good old Nova (didn’t used it since 6 or 7 years), still an amazing customisable launcher even in its free version. Way better than the e/os launcher.
Got to explore more this new phone and new os now, to decide if I can make it my main personnal and pro phone.
And thanks to the Murena staff to make that free system so simple to install and so good working !
I agree, nothing against the /e/os devs, but I simply can’t stand the Bliss launcher. I’m using Lawnchair 14 which works beautifully and unlike Bliss, it has every customization you can think of.
However, the recent apps switcher is still Bliss which sucks (evidently they can’t write a decent app switcher either). I had to root the phone to change the switcher to Lawnchair. That was a super pain in the ass and I didn’t want to do it in the first place, but I did it. Unfortunately the Lawnchair switcher crashes so I’m still stuck with the Bliss switcher
I installed e/os 2.9 beta 2. The phone runs a bit smoother, but it’s still not what it should be.
I tried Lawnchair launcher, after reading CraigHB’s message. Nice ! Not as customisable as Nova Launcher, but i,ll keep it, because Nova was taking a lot of ressources.
I managed to get better colors, through accessibility settings and livedisplay options. It’s far from being good but at least, it doesn’t give me headache anymore.
I failed running the “Liberation” app, it shuts down right after opening.
In the next episode, i will try to do the serious part, with the bank apps and the sim cards installing…
Stay tuned !
So far very happy with it. It’s been about a week. Bigger than my older iPhone XS so often have to use one-hand mode but it’s fine. I probably won’t be as daring on the move.
What’s probably interesting for some is that I do have my SIM working (no issue) and my banking app (ING Belgium) also working. In fact I even did a payment this morning with it (via QR code, no NFC).
I want to update my opinion of this phone. I have been shooting some photographs and I think is bit as bad as I thought. I selected the best quality for the camera and you have to get used to the exposure but I think it does a pretty decent job.
I started an account in Pixelfed to promote /e/OS. If you want to take a look (I don’t use filters, but crop the pics and sometime add a bit of saturation, but mist of them just cropped).
I have installed /e/OS in a CMF 1 after owning a GS290.
I had some issues with the installation but after some trials and errors I finally get the system installed.
In general, the system is working perfectly fine. The only issue I see is that after powering on the phone and after the initial splash screens (CMF, Murena,…) the screen goes black instead of showing the PIN screen. I have to wait a couple of seconds and then click the power button to see the PIN screen. It is not a big issue. Maybe it is the expected behaviour but it was not like this in the GS290.
Apart from this, as I said, the experience is very smooth and everything is great.
I have been using this device with E’/OS fo a while now. I am really impressed and satisfied. There is one thing that really annoys, and I am not sure it is hardware of software related.
Once every 1 or 2 days the screen freezes when I try to unlock. The device is still alive in the background, but I can not interact with it anymore, leaving no other option than a long press on the power button.
This always happens on the least ideal moment… Hopefully there will be a fix. In the release notes of the last version there is mention of a fix for a problem that looks like mine, but in my case the issue persists after the update.
Has anyone got the two camera lenses to work with /e/-os? It would be so nice to have a decent camera app on that os, I thought it’s my old phone from 2018 but almost any pictures are not compareable to stock camera apps.
