Completely remove app and all info

Hi

I have some issues with an app. I want to reinstall and start all over again. But apparently /e/os remembers some config for this app which is then applied when I reinstall.

Is there a way to uninstall an app and make the phone forget everything about it, so I can start over again from a clean sheet?

Regain your privacy! Adopt /e/OS the deGoogled mobile OS and online services

Directly before you uninstall the App: Settings - Apps - (App in question) - Storage and cache - Clear storage (and) Clear cache

In case that isn’t enough … which App exactly are we talking about?

Thank you. I guess it worked, but it did not solve my original problem. I will have to keep searching for a solution another place.

For info:
My problem is with more apps. At least Mobilepay (money transfer, very popular in Denmark) and MinStrøm.

To register you have to log in with MitID (Danish electronic authentication system), which only work in some browsers. So if you app (like mobilepay) insists on using a certain browser the process will fail.

Mobilepay did not choose my default browser or the build in browser. I suspected left over config. It appears that it chooses browser from a list sorted alphabetically. It used Brave until I uninstall Brave and it then took duckduckgo.

MinStrøm on the other hand insists on using the build in browser. I have not found a way around that yet.

I’ve seen this happening too.

Despite manually clearing an apps data and cache completely along with whatever app related folder under Android/Data and Android/Media… The app still remembers the last email login used. Weird right!

My only conclusion is the same as asbjorn’s, e/os keeps certain info somewhere.

The App may just be a “glorified” website = just be a wrapper for displaying web content, so the browser or browser component (= Android System WebView) it chooses for displaying the UI pages may be responsible for remembering login details and other stuff.

Have you tried clearing data and cache of those?
(Which of course might reset other stuff you want the browser or browser component to remember for other websites.)

There might be none.
I think there are two different mechanisms. An App can tell Android to open a link in a browser, or it can tell Android to display web content seamlessly inside of the App, which should invoke Android System WebView.
You can swap the default browser and, if rooted, perhaps the System WebView, but you can’t swap the mechanism the App uses.
Users more knowledgeable might please correct me or provide more insight.

Thank you for explaining.
For Mobilepay the fix is simply to have brave installed.

For minStrøm:

There might be none.

Fortunately there’s other apps with essentially the same functionality, so this is not really important. But now I have gotten curious.

Have you tried clearing data and cache of those?

I have tried clearing the cache for the built in browser - no success. What about Android System WebView. This is not shown on the app list as an app I can clear cache for. How do I clear that?

It shows once one includes Show system (top right 3 dot menu) in the Settings > All apps view.

Thank you.

I tried this, but no success. It appear that AnotherElk is rigth: there may be no way around this.
