De-googling and Bliss Launcher questions

Hi

Installed /e/os on my older sony xperia 1 ii, and it has been a blast. But i do have some questions for people to help me going…

  1. i am slowly de-googling so any services i use, e,g, city mapper and open maps (still missing an app or a website to discover places on the maps, e.g. restaurants and / or B&B or something. using a combination of websites and tripadvisor type of websites etc.). i install or bookmark an alternative on the e/os sony phone and then uninstall that service form my previous phone. e.g. replaced all google items with Prontonmail equivalent. Any suggestion for a discovery app? (region Northern Europe)?
  2. my previous phone is a fair phone 5 running default factory OS, but once i move everything onto the e/os hopefully then i will install also on my fairphone 5 the e/os and probably give it to my wife (and sell her nothing phone1 that she is using currently, that was not in the list of the supported devices). And for myself the sony xperia 1 ii, is old, has an old battery, and is dinged up etc, is not necessarily slow, but no esim support (when travelling) so i saw Sony Xperia 1 V pop up in the supported device list, should i buy that and install e/os/ on it, any one used it? (i want to know if MS authenticator and my work’s banking apps would work, trying to get work to give me a workphone (probably an iphone) but then at least i dont have to mix work stuff with personal). ?
  3. Using the OS, one thing is a bit bothersome, is there a way to re-order home screens? e.g. page 1 i have all the daily tools, 2nd page all the personal email/proton apps, 3rd page all my personal / banking etc. 4th page any media and games etc… is there a way to quickly move page 2 to page 4, i.e. swap ?
  4. can i use any pronton mail address / alias to sync my notes (native app on /e/os) to proton drive ? I like it supports markdown.
  5. Can i use proton drive to sync tasks application data? (the default app on e/os/ - it is pretty comprehensive).

thanking in anticipation for the help. and if i want to support e/os/ how can i do it. (finance professional with tax structuring knowledge and business consultant here with a techy and privacy focussed mind).

kind regards.

Not sure, but have you tried gogol maps webview wrapper?

Aegis should do (rock solid job in combination with MS services for my job)

Check out compatibility of banking apps and other apps (no guarantees!)

I do not use proton apps so I cannot answer these but joplin is a nice markdown notes tool.
(I doubt proton integrates well with the system apps as it is a proprietary solution - from what I know … others are more knowledgeable on that behalf)

And you can install alternative launchers that might have the features you prefer and use them instead of built in Bliss, only I cannot recommend any - I am sure others can…
In case you are not aware of it: you can group app icons in Bliss, maybe that helps a bit.

For google maps weapper, do you mean pwa? I tried the two that showed up on app lounge. They did not work. I guess i could bookmark in browser and put a bookmark on desktop or something. Although it is pretty annoying. That begs the question, on e/os: are all apps sandboxed? This is rhe million dollar question i have.

For the aegis Authenticator, i intemd to move everything to proton pass and i had most things on Authy but our work IT dept. has locked office apps to only work theough MS. Authenticator. I was using Authy but now IT has blocked everything else…
So now i gotta have both.

Thanks for the rest of the info.

You can simply open the url for Google/Maps in default Browser, then top right 3 dot menu > Add to home screen. Slight annoyance is that you may have to repeatedly say “No, do not install as an app”.

I find Maps / Magic Earth improves with use. A particularly good way to “early educate” Maps / micro-G location is to have Maps open during a train journey, allows it to pick up high quality fixes from trackside beacons.

I had no idea about micro g being completely different to the google play location services. Read up on it now…
