While searching for a way to donate to /e/OS without donating to Paypal, I found the thread DONATIONS / Liberapay , which is closed.
There is a profile on Liberapay but with almost no information. Is there any official confirmation that this is linked to the /e/OS Foundation?
PS: The account owner receives the donations via Paypal, but at least Liberapay is able to bundle incoming donations. I’m aware of the alternatives (Bitcoin etc.), but I never figured out how to convert my €s into BTC without huge losses, so I prefer to stay with Liberapay.
I have no information about that specific account, but I think Liberapay is working on integrating GNU Taler (discussion on the Taler integrations forum here), which should be interesting once it launches in both the Euro zone and in Hungary next year. It is the first real privacy friendly payment method, so I hope we’ll see Murena adopt it directly as well.
It would indeed be very satisfying if the current payment providers could be avoided! For Taler it seems to be important that the “mint” allows you to buy Taler representations of a traditional currency through a simple bank transfer.
Yeah, the way it works is you get a code number from the wallet app which you use as the “subject” field for a normal bank transfer to the bank account of the Taler exchange for your target currency. For instance, for Euro this is going to be GLS Bank (launching next year), or for Swiss Francs it is Taler Operations (already operating). That will charge your wallet with untraceable coins for the target currency.
For merchants and donation recipients, one big attraction is that there are currently no transaction fees whatsoever, whereas PayPal takes a hefty chunk.
it’s easy to donate via bank transfer in euros. If you send an email to donation@murena.io asking for the iban, you may even get a reply from the president himself.
