Done with Murena, no support, bad service, old phone, high px

Problems with Murena despite repeated attempts to resolve. I’m getting the new Unplugged phone.

Why doesn’t e/ fix the file transfer problem from phone to computer? Everyone wants to upload pictures at the very least.

No one want to use e/ cloud every time. Is it just to get people to pay for the e/ cloud service? I’m tired of asking for fixes for the same thing.

Why does my phone randomly turn the screen on and off until the battery dies since the new update? I’m tired of asking for fixes.

Why did e/ send me a Pixel 5 with a broken sim card holder and refuse to replace it? Their service literally said I have to send the entire phone back to be replaced and sit without a phone while they take a month to send one back. Just bad customer service. I just bought the dam thing.

This is my second e/ phone. I won’t be buying another. It’s really annoying. Tired of the tech hassles all the new tech has. My first e/ os phone was ok.

What IS the file transfer problem? When you plug in a cable between your device and a Windows PC you can pump files immediately, you don’t even need further software or something. There are also solutions for a Linux PC. You can transfer files from and to everywhere in the same wifi network using wireless protocols like FTP or HTTP and several proprietary ones. I never used the ecloud for files.

Also, KDE Connect is one of the first apps I install. Anywhere anytime.

I have windows 10. On my e/ phone, when i try to click to let my computer control file transfer the phone will NOT allow it.
I have tried changing file types and messaging murena support. murena messaged back ‘thanks for visiting our site’.

There are also multiple people with the same problem in the forum. The answer I have seen is use the e/ cloud.

I understand your problem correctly I could also be a problem with the port on the computer or even a cable which doesn’t work properly.

This is also a common issue on the forum often talked about

The “control” switch is not one I find useful in everyday use for data transfer … however I wonder if the issue is looking more significant to you because of the cable you use. In the following screenshots I use first the cable which came with the phone, then a decent data cable.

Settings > USB screenshots

Image 1. No cable connected. All greyed out … stays this way till a cable is connected. We see also that this device has the disadvantage that Default USB has been set at No data transfer.

Default USB is found in Developer options.

Image 2. Ineffective cable connected. No transfer is possible. It seems “Connected device” might switch …

Image 3. Same cable, “Connected device” Couldn’t switch …

Image 4. Data cable connected … “greyed out” has gone … but still no data transfer … it will switch …

Image 5. All set for File transfer.

If you haven’t enabled file transfer in the dev settings of course that it won’t work…

Go to dev settings in the system part. Find this option.

Yes, but this is a developer setting. The typical user doesn’t even know how to get there. And yes, that could be called a problem.

There’s a lot in the mix as commented by others.

Corrupted/outdated device drivers in W10 should be considered as well.

Have you tried hooking up your device using a different cable and/or computer?

On a Pixel phone (i.e. Android as Google has blessed it in all its spyware/tracking glory), the phone defaults to USB charging, and gives a persistent notification in the ‘window shade’ menu where the connection mode can be selected each time the device is connected to a computer. The ability to override the default configuration in the development options is also the behavior you’ll find on a Pixel.

This is also true on the shipping builds of Android on the OnePlus, Samsung, and Nothing phones I’ve owned, at least since Android 11. Perhaps one can reasonably argue that there’s a better way to do this, and perhaps it shouldn’t be a developer setting, but I’m not sure it’s on /e/ to be unique in that respect.

I got a new cable wasting another $15.
Same thing It will not allow the computer control file transfer. The phone is unable to control file transfer. I am not a develoer and don’t know how to access that part of the phone. Why does Murena send me a phone I have to change developer options on for a rote function?
Why do they send me a broken phone and refuse to send a replacement?

Why does my phone turn the screen on all the time? This kills the battery.

Why is there no support?

The idea of “usb controlled by the PC” is is really not significant for file transfer as I showed in the screenshots.

… but the screenshots also demonstrate that you can file transfer even with the Default USB set to “No data transfer”. As I understand it this is a default built into mainstream Android to help prevent the device being hacked by outsiders.

Note how Images 1 - 3 are all fail, and only Image 5. is the success … and one can only make changes with a “live” data cable connected.

Just done with all the hassles. I’ll just get an unplugged phone and see how that goes.
I feel like a monkey jumping through hoops to do what should be easy.

File transfer is enabled in developer options

I turn off my screen manually and the phone sits and turns on and off by itself until the battery dies.

Please can you try to start in Safe Mode to see if the problem still exists.

To engage Safe mode Long press Power button > Long press Power icon > Read and OK to “Advice”.

Some more words about this here Find problem apps by rebooting to safe mode - Pixel Phone Help.

Transferring files to a pc has always been a pain point for me on any android. I tend to use an app like Local Send (There’s lots of other alternatives) and grab them from the using a web browser. Or a cloud service.

From my experience with several devices and /e/ versions, connecting by USB cable works on Windows 10 every time, but not repeatedly; and never on Windows 7.

Problem seems to be a missing Windows driver to recognise /e/ devices. Does anyone know how to find such drivers? The /e/ device seems to be unknown to Windows.

While the thread below reads as specific to fp3 and fastboot it is the same principle having Windows update manager searching for drivers for any

:warning: Problem device

Maybe Windows 7 is no longer active, but Windows 10 should be capable of removing all but the newest devices. As I understand it the drivers are device specific, so /e/OS installed should not really inhibit Wndows update from at least eliminating the :warning: Problem device.
