is a e account needed to install and use the os /e/ ?

Sadly I couldn’t find a clear statement on the website.

Please note it is not mandatory that you create an /e/ ID to use the /e/OS. Having an /e/ ID helps connect you with the services which come as part of the /e/ Experience …

Hello.

On the /e/ forum, members with ‘/e/ user’ tag have an e account, other don’t… but most are d/e/vice users :wink:

I very much appreciate the openness and operability of /e/ the most. You do not need any account to use the OS. You can chose but also you can use any NextCloud instance to sync your data. You can, as I do, even mix more than one NextCloud instance. I bought a package from /e/ to support the project and sync my photos via my /e/ account, but my contacts and calendar are hosted on another NextCloud instance in my country :+1:
