/e/OS installation on Fairphone 3 stuck at step 14/18- SOLVED

So I’m trying to install eOS on a Fairphone 3, following the easy installer, on a Windows PC. I had a couple of problems but was finally able to reach step 14/18 where it says

Bootloader connection
Your phone will now reboot in bootloader mode.
When your phone is on, connect your phone in bootloader mode by clicking on the link below.

The FP3 is connected to the PC via a working USB cable, visible in the Windows explorer without :warning:, and shows

FASTBOOT MODE
DEVICE STATE – unlocked

But when I click on “Connect”, I get the error message

Error on step: connect-bootloader
Cannot execute command connect bootloader
The device is not connected Failed to connect: Cannot connect bootloader
Proposal: Check connection and that no other program is using the phone and retry

Being so close to the finish line I would be very happy for any suggestions!

Hello @UrbaneJean, Welcome to the /e/ users forum.

There are often issues with web-installer, safer is to follow Install /e/OS on a Fairphone FP3/3+ - “FP3”

Thanks @piero for the fast reply. Yes, I already checked the post you mentioned, that’s what got me to step 14/18. I also tried to follow the manual installation (downloaded & unzipped the A13 official build; and Fastboot “sees” the phone). But as this is my first time installing a custom ROM, I can’t figure out what is meant by

Where do I right click? Git Bash is installed and looks like this

As you can see I blindly tried “Open existing Repository” and select the IMG. When I open it, it looks like this

Where am I supposed to enter “chmod +x …” ?

Sorry for being so stupid!

Git bash is a fairly big item but the only part you want is the terminal emulator, Git bash: Definition, commands, & getting started | Atlassian. The rest of Git bash is “version control” – we are not using any of that function.

So you move to the indicated directory and

Right click

… you now have the new option on that menu

Git bash here

@aibd , THANK YOU so much, it worked!!

Again I didn’t know what you mean with “move to the indicated directory”, but the following worked for me:

  • following the link above, install Git-2.51.0.2-64-bit.exe from https://gitforwindows.org/ and start it → a cmd-like looking window opens
  • move to the directory the IMG is in (cd Downloads, cd IMG-e-3.1.4 …)
  • type in chmod +x flash_ … as stated in the manual installation guide

And that did the trick!

Maybe the manual installation guide can be expanded to clarify this point?

Again, thank you for your fast reply. With all the sh*t going on right now, helpful and kind people like you really restore my faith in humanity :slightly_smiling_face:.
