I don’t know where you got the idea that this device will have an up-to-date or stable version of /e/OS. The only /e/OS version I know of is a v0.9-n build from June 2020 - see this thread
I would be possible to build a v0.23-n (LOS 14.1) version of /e/OS, or even a v0.12-oreo version using the stuff currently being worked on, though I don’t think anyone is working on that. It is not currently possible to build /e/OS 1.0 and later versions for devices “stuck” on Android 7 / Nougat / Lineage 14 or Android 8 Oreo / Lineage 15, nor is it likely to be possible in future.
