The Fairphone 3/3+ is a good example.
As a successor to the Fairphone 2 (5" screen, 144.5 mm x 74.5 mm x 10.6 mm) it was (and is) considered too big by many.
But only based on the screen size this assumption falls short in practice, as in fact the width and thickness are almost the same, which is important for handling, the Fairphone 3/3+ is “just” noticeably longer (5.65" screen, 158 mm x 71.8 mm x 9.89 mm as seen above without a bumper or extra case). If it’s too big for the respective circumstances of anybody even after considering this, that’s fair of course, the remaining difference is obvious.
The point being, one really needs to have a look at the overall dimensions apart from the screen size.
