I am in EU-I have recently started using e/OS (installed on my xperia 1 ii). i am slowly moving apps to it from my other primary phone (fair phone 5, running factory android and not e/os).
Today while using a car sharing app Free2Move (previously called car2go) i could login, i could find a car, i could open the car, and i could log out, i could finish the ride. But
what i could not do at all was to click in the app a button called “lock car” or “unlock car” and for this feature i am guessing it uses 2 services
internet
and
(maybe) android nearby service (which popped up when i first used the app because it probably uses bluetooth to cimmunicate with the car and check if you nearby the car and lets you unlock the car the first time, which worked like a charm). but like stopping at a shop and just locking the car for 2 mins while you grab a croissant or something, is not working.
I had to use mobile hotspot to use my other fairphone 5 to lock and unlock the car.
i have no idea what this could be?
any permissions that i need to change? i could not see anything in the permissions section that i could give more to the app ?
I am guessing this kind of app is also not good for privacy, it has gps permission only when using the app. once i login the car, i kill the app by the way. i guess this comes with not owning a car, in your life…
TIP: You can block trackers with a tracker-blocking app, although some apps might malfunction as a result. (Is /e/OS blocking any relevant trackers at the moment, by the way?)
I think its that … if it relies specifically on that
What you need
Important: Cross-device services are not available on Android Go devices.
Two or more Android phones or tablets running Android 11 and up.[…]
A Google Account that you’re signed in to on both devices.
Bluetooth needs to be on for both devices.
the nearby service popped up when unlocking car and it asked that i need permission for bluetooth and nearby service which i allowed for “while using the app”… but then for locking and unlocking (something in the background) is killing it or nor allowing it… very strange behaviour…
interesting the ride start/stop works, intermittent pause doesn’t, valuable feedback.
If you’d want to confirm it is indeed missing nearby API support you’d need to check the logcat at that time, either on-device or tethered to a laptop. Or outright asking support
