FairPhone 5 : Loss of fingerprint function

Hello,

I’ve been using /e/OS murena for a few months without any difficulty and last night I lost the fingerprint function without any explanation (no phone dropped, no application installed when the function was lost). I don’t know if the hardware function is broken or if it’s software. I’m thinking of reinstalling the OS to find out, but I’d like your opinion.

The only potentially impactful thing I did was: I remember that 2 days ago I updated a new version of “Murena MDM” system app (foundation.e.mdm) to version 6.03. I don’t real known what it does but after the installation there was no problem. I don’t know how to rollback this update to check.

The function has totally disappeared from the system settings menu, it’s no longer offered anywhere.

You could go into Settings->apps->all apps then 3 dot
righttop corner to see system there you should be able to find the app and you could delete the storge. Disabling or uninstalling it not possible

You did that to MDM right?

It should also be possible to do it with the system app which holds the fingerprint Just throwing in ideas, not sure how valid it is.

Yes I did it on “Murena MDM”.
But I don’t know the name of the system application that manages fingerprints

Perhaps my issue have somthing to do with this issue :

FP5 fingerprint sensor unresponsive after update .098 (not 0.88)

But /e/OS does not have the “Find Device” feature so I cannot try this workaround.

I reinstall the image IMG-e-2.8-t-20250219470165-official-FP5.zip from /e/OS official FP5 download but it does not fix the issue.
Perhaps I got a hardware issue but I don’t really believe it.

“Device Info HW” app give me a + for fingerprint fonction.

Can anyone with a Fairphone 5, and no fingerprint issue, tell me if it also has a + ?

I think I will backup my data then :

• re-lock bootloader, it is not yet done after a manual 2.9-t-20250321478215-official-FP5 installation, and it seems that could disabled the feature
• try to reinstall standard FP5 OS

My problem isn’t solved, but I can live without this feature
So far, it doesn’t seem to be related to the version of /e/OS.
I think it’s a hardware problem.

im experiencing the same problem. have a FP5, updated to the latest version of Eos.
first i noticed that when i was on my login screen the visual feedback of the fingerprint sensor being pressed was flickering the while time. The blue half circle at the right of the screen at the height of the FP sensor.

I have tried the suggestions on the linked page but i have no ‘privacy and security’ only a seperate privacy and a seperate security tab.

If i show all system apps i only have ‘find my device’ where i can only select ‘Force stop’, disable is greyed out. Ive also tried to toggle the find my device app (from off to off) but no change…

I think its a bug.
