[FEATURE PROPOSAL] Add fake dependency for Android Auto in native build /e/OS

Hello, everyone!
I’ve been using /e/OS on a Fairphone for a short while now, and I have to admit I’ve been a bit annoyed that I can’t use Android Auto without those pesky Google dependencies, which are completely useless to me…
So I searched and browsed quite a few forums and stumbled upon a gem:

This developer offers fake dependencies for Android Auto, and it works perfectly!
No bugs with Google Maps—it doesn’t show up at all—and no issues with TTS either; it just says the service isn’t available.
It works without Google, so I wanted to share this with you because I know many of us aren’t aware of this solution—I had a hard time finding it myself.
I think it would be great to integrate this directly into /e/OS, after, of course, a proper audit of the three dependencies.

I’m providing public links to the original .apk files, as well as the folders and .zip files for the decompiled dependencies:

Best regards,

Cordialement,
Numidara

Hello! No reaction at all?

the /e/gitlab can yield developer feedback. You can use the email from the forum to register an account

I’m not dependent on Android Auto, I’m perfectly happy to just run navigation on my phone and leave it in a holder/etc. But, it would be quite nice if it was integrated into the OS. I currently have it running via the installing the stubs method in this thread. Maps/Nav works ok, but I can’t use music apps, which is a bummer. I was just about to look into it when I saw this thread, so yeah - +1 upvote.

There is also a feature proposal on GitLab: Android Auto - Official Support for Google apps stubs (#9118) · Issues · e / Backlog · GitLab
I am not sure whether the proposed stubs are the same as the ones linked by @Numidara , but I will add a link to this thread to the GitLab ticket.
