With /e/ pie and project treble devices, the recovery program is flashed onto the same partition as the system, hence, it’s overwritten at every update. Right now the stock Lineage OS recovery is included, which is very limited in functionality. I suggest replacing that with TWRP, that is in any case, what is recommended during the flashing of /e/ anyway.
