I’ve been setting up my new FP6 with /e/OS, when I noticed that I seemingly can’t lock my apps without using 3rd party apps.
Since e/OS is a privacy focused OS I am quite surprised. Locking an app with PIN/Gesture/Biometrics seems like a basic feature to have yet it is missing and has been for a while, according to some old posts on here.
Is there such thing planned in the future? Or is it perhaps implemented and I just haven’t found it?
I really don’t want to trust a 3rd party app with such data.
Thank you for the suggestion. I am using this (AppLock by PranavPurwar) as a “solution” for now.
It isn’t optimal, since it doesn’t go as deep as the usual hardware(?)-based Lock (the one you’d see when you are changing your Screen Unlock Method for example) and can fairly easily be bypassed/uninstalled by a tech-savvy person. It is good enough to keep regular people from snooping around in my phone, but would fail if someone would actually try to break into a (perhaps stolen) device.
I still think this feature is something that a lot of users would appreciate if it was bundled with base installation of /e/OS. I’d love to be able to lock my apps on hardware level, instead of relying on 3rd party app which relies on:
A) Accessibility Overlay (which is easily avoided if you spam home screen button while opening the unlocked app)
B) Usage Statistics (seems to be working fine for now)
C) Shizuku (which requires setup via Dev settings and Wireless Pairing setup after every phone restart, due to phone not being rooted)
I’ve seen this feature being requested since 2019 and I hope to see it being implemented one day.
