Feedback/few questions before installing /e/OS on Pixel 7

Hello everyone,

I’m new to this community and I thank everyone for the project and the work.

I bought a Pixel 7 that I just successfully downgraded to Android 13 as required.
I carefully read the installation page Info about Google Pixel 7 - panther before trying to install /e/OS in it.
I have a few question as I want to be extra carefull :

  • Can anyone confirm me I can (should ?) use the “Official” version on this Pixel I did not bought from Murena ?
(as this page Different Build Types explicitly says
(official) builds are currently only available on the Murena smartphones > Murena smartphone are phones purchase through the [murena Shop]")
    I have a doubt.

  • the installation page indicates to lock the bootloader at the end of the procedure :

What is your advice as I read some posts or articles that advise against locking it ?

  • did anyone perform this installation (on Google Pixel 7) recently ? I appreciate any feedback (even a simple one such as “documentation is accurate, it works fine ;-)”

Thank you for any feedback/advice.

JMG

Hi @jmg welcome to the /e/ forum.

This has been mentioned before … it is certainly not a problem in your case.

The situation is that phones sold in the Murena shop only have an official build.

Offocial builds have the advantage that they get OTA Android version upgrades, while community builds require an (annual) manual upgrade of Android version which itself may depend on having a backup of all data.

I don’t have the phone … 95% of /e/OS ROMs currently do not support locking. However I believe the documentation is accurate in describing the lock in the install page only if it is available.

Hello aibd, thank you for taking a few minutes to reply.

I will then try to install the Official build and give feedback to the community (it may reassure cautious guys like me

I can already confirm any newbie like me that downgrading pixel7 from Android 14 to android 13 using Android Flash Tool works fine (need to install the google USB driver).

Hello everyone,

I’m so happy to inform you I successfully installed /e/OS on a Pixel 7.
In my personal case :

  • documentation was accurate
  • I even could lock the bootloader, as described in the documentation.

I prepare a simple document with printscreens and photos of the process that I will share in the the Pixel 7 specific topic, as a personel feedback.

Special thanks to @aibd. You will always have a free & fresh beer when you come to Brittany…

Bonjour jmg,
Merci d’avance.

Install /e/OS on a Google Pixel 7 - “panther”

Merci, je connais la page avec les instructions d’installation, mais cela me parait complexe.

Hello, I did it (as a visual complement to the official doc, which still is the official reference).

I simply need to find out how to attach the document (currently a .pdf file from a libre office presentation). I may need to convert it to standard images.

I keep you updated !

Well… not sure this is the most appropriate thread to publish this personal visual feedback.

Feel free to tell me to move it to another place, if needed.

Hello jmg,
Thanks for the images.
I read the Lineage OS installation documentation, I find it clearer.
With the Lineage documentation and your explanations, I managed to install e/os without any problem.
Everything is functional.
Thank you very much
