Chance does not agree with your statement. It would imply that many FP5 users have the same issue with their hardware, and it also does not play well with the fact there is a known bug for this exact issue with Murena.
The phone has been exhibiting this behavior:
for multiple users, all with FP5 models
on various software versions
I can additionally tell you, as I have posted before, that the issue (for me at least) ALWAYS coincides with app updates that are triggered either directly before the reboot or directly after one. Since I have not found a way to disable automatic app updates, Iām at the mercy of Murena here. If I could disable that, I could pick my own moment to deploy app updates to test my theory, but at this point Iām reasonably convinced the issue lies somewhere in this corner, connected to the automatic app updater.
Iām far less convinced a hard reset would help since the phone was brand spanking new to begin with (new, clean purchase from Murena) when it was already exhibiting this behavior. It would also be a major pain in the neck for me since I have a lot of custom stuff set up on it, up to and including 2FA auth apps that all have to be reset to do this.
So yes, Iām becoming a bit impatient with Murena (not) dealing with this. It cannot be that their flagship phone has a crippling issue that is not resolved for 4 versions in a row.
Android accounts appear broken, at least for Nextcloud. I cannot add a Nextcloud account, and my previous accounts stopped working.
I notice this immediately after the upgrade and it worked beforehand.
The accounts work fine for apps that do not use the Android accounts feature, and also via web browser.
Trying to remove the accounts work, but adding a nextcloud account back does not work anymore. It does not even appear to be checking whether the domain exists, it just says there is no connection.
I am using a VPN but this has never been an issue in the past, and the same nextcloud account works in another app that does not use Android accounts and it works in web - both on the same phone using the same VPN.
This is a specific app issue. Iām not sure whether or not this is OS relatedā¦ I guess it was working on previous version. This must be related to a conflict between FP and open camera. Your app doesnāt know which one to choose. Try to see if you can make one of the camera the ādefaultā one for your app.
Thank you.
Yes, app related but only since v. 2.2 of /e/OS.
It is not possible to choose the default app. I tried to unset Fairphone Camera but I had the same behaviour.
I opened a GitLab bug.
Iām facing the same issue with an FP5, and I agree with you that itās a shame not having a fix for monthes.
Yet, manoj said it would be done for the next release (2.4), and the issue on gitlab shows that it is now in validation, meaning something was done and currently being tested. I didnāt find a public location where the fix can be seen, I suppose itās somewhere internal.
In the meantime, a workaround (that I didnāt test myself) often mentioned is to use a different launcher.
I suppose that the team had other issues to fix, since that one was probably tricky as only FP5-related and do not make the phone unusable (even if I agree with you that in case of emergency it could be highly problematic).
Sadly, itās not the first time that I see such cases in the open/free software worldā¦ seems ānormalā.

Yesterday I did mention, that I have some issues after the update on 2.3 on my wifes FP5.
Now, the issue is serious, because it affects one of the core functions of a mobile: to have connection to a local network for webdav services and the NAS.
I have a FP4 with /e/OS running on it and I am more than happy with the phone and /e/OS! I do not have any issues since years! I really appreciate this mobile and OS!
The problem now is, that my wife canāt access the services anymore (while all other family mobiles and notebooks do have connection). The recognition of the local network doesnāt work anymore on the FP5, network error.
Hey,
ā¢ Vendor Name: Fairphone
ā¢ Device Name: FP3+
ā¢ Previous Version of /e/OS: 2.2-t-20240715417772-stable-FP5

I canāt update to 2.3 because the system says it needs minimum xxx MB free space.
The system has currently 3 GB free space.
The amount of space changes all the time between 330 and 500 MB.
I already deleted over 500 MB now the system shows 3,4GB free space and the updater still wants additional 400MB.
Halo @Thunfischsalat ,
I have an FP3+ too, but with dozens Gb free on both the internal memory and the card. Maybe you can move some data from the internal memory to the card?
Since the phone is purchased from Murena you can update the form here and share details. The team would be able to help if this issue is network specific
Did you register on Murena (getting backups that basically rely on a version of NextCloud)?
If yes, you get access to all your previous contents from any PC, and can delete some more on the phone, youāll get it back later.
If no, you can plug the phone on a computer, then reach to the phone USB prefs which by default only allow charging through the cable (to protect you from any intrusion) and then switch this pref to something like āallow files access through USBā (I donāt remember the exact wording) : the whole contents of your phone appears on the computer ā copy a range of files, then delete them on the phone, reboot and retry.
The same process will allow you to put the files back on the phone afterwards. And inded this way may be faster than the Murena server.
I for one strongly encourage adding a small external memory card to the phone, which would have allowed you to just move a bunch of things from the inner memory to the card and go. These mem cards are very cheap now if you stay with medium sizes.
last resort : there are many utilities that will offer to clean up your system āeven moreā.
On this please never trust closed sources (you donāt really know what they do, what they recordā¦) but you may explore F-Droid where at least the source code is checked and recompiled properly, and download one of them from there. This may free some more memory and caches. Again, only as last resort; the two methods above should be both sufficient and more efficient.
If you want to try F-Droid, you can download and install their app on the phone, which will automatically check the compatibilities with your phone model and also can install apps directly.
