Forum: add voting to select categories

watching forum and gitlab backlog for years, some long term and “low simmering” issues tend to fall out the attention window and aren’t being accounted for relative to their interest.

I’d be helpful to have a voting plugin for select categories to collect long term interest:

gitlab issues have voting, but getting there has some obstacles: needs an account that is hard to get, platform familiarity “where do I vote?”, some skill to find or create the issue.

Mozilla did good to introduce “Connect”, it kept most “me too” and ranty comments away from their bugzilla, but captures the interest - and they actually do execute on that list.

(the question came up in 2019, but the discourse voting plugin wasn’t around by then. I’m not sure the mechanics of the voting plugin is 100% what I’m looking for, but it’s good enough)

An example how it looks in practice at some random forum:

to illustrate: counting the entries on the calendar notification issue prompted me to post this thread.

The constant demand for “uninstall default apps”, “launcher freedom” (the craziest of threads, easily solved) and “edrive better sync” should be accrued over time.

It doesn’t mean Murena needs to do those things vs their product direction - but one look at a top 10 every half year surely helps if there is a gap to be filled in a roadmap.

You can’t make all those users create gitlab accounts and meaningfully navigate the backlog just to cast a vote on the right, non-duplicate issue. The pool of non-public backlog issues also increases, so there can be a shadow-issue on the public entry.
