Dear all,
I bought an FP4 for my daughter from Murena Shop with e/OS pre-installed in 2023.
Today we realized that the device is still at system version 1.12.3 - s. The update manager does not offer any update options. In the settings, verification is marked for “every day” and all options are “green” (i.e. checked). Requesting a manual check for available updates gives no result. She tried emptying the cache and storage space of the update manager (+reboot), but to no avail.
My daughter doesn’t remember receiving any notifications or updating the system since we bought it.
Do you have any suggestions on how to remedy this situation and make the necessary updates?
System (in French) is:
Version d’/e/OS
1.12.3-s-20230615299639-stable-FP4
Numéro de version
e_FP4-user 12 SQ3A.220705.004 eng.root.20230615.051601 dev-keys
Download this file e-2.4.1-t-20241009439851-official-FP4.zip on the computer, (put it into the platform-tools folder)
.
Boot the phone into recovery mode.
.
Select Apply Update, then Apply from ADB
On the computer the sideloading shows progress as a percentage figure that will stop at 47%. The phone will still be installing though (even though it might feel like nothing is happening sometimes!) and you can expect to see the following screens
Thank you Piero for your detailed response.
Yet, I have 2 questions:
you mention a download for a file labelled with “FP3”, my daughter’s phone is an FP4 (as mentioned in my post). Are you sure this file is the correct one?
I presume that there is a high risk of data loss during this manual update. Do you know of any linux software to perform a complete backup of the phone before applying it?
Why is the updater not showing new updates. Is there a bug?
Can I use the previous described method with the same image, too?
Does this method reset the phone or does it keep the user data?
Thank you again Piero,
I have one last question (hopefully), which is more of a curiosity: why can’t I update directly from the phone? Basically, that’s what the update manager does. It downloads a file and uses it to perform the update. Why can’t I just download the file manually from the phone and use the update manager to perform the update operation using that file?
All the best
Luis
As your phones are on the stable build type, at some point the updater should offer an upgrade OTA (= over the air = via the updater) to /e/OS based on Android 13 (T).
Hi aibd,
My daughter’s phone (running 1.12.3-s) only has “preferences” and “show release notes” (actually their French equivalent). No “local update”. Same for me on a S9+ running 2.4.1-s
All the best
Luis
Hi Piero,
My daughter is not here at the moment. Will have to wait until early November to test your solution and will come back here with good news I hope. If it’s a success I will note your post as “solution”.
Thank you again
