[FP6] Excessive outgoing noise reduction during calls

During calls, the other person often cannot hear me if I make non-word sounds like laughter and humming.

  • I have /e/OS installed by hand, to the latest version (3.4-a15)

  • The problem does not persist if I use a recording app

  • My carrier only allows 4G and 5G calls

Issue was from day one. I had similar issues on my FP3+ when I switched to 4G/5G.

I’ve tried adjusting SIM settings but nothing seems to help. Phone app does not appear to have a way to adjust its noise reduction.

Have also posted this question on the FP forum. If they find a solution I’ll link it here.

Maybe ask on Lineage forum as well as the phone app probably comes entirely from lineages OS dev

Discord’d Lineage devs on their public channel, but they were not happy to help since /e/ was involved

Maybe the filtering happens at low level, like “firmware”/drivers of the VoLTE signal, that part is handled by Fairphone, so you might have an answer from them if that is the case.

No, I saw your thread but I don’t think it’s quite the same.

My audio is consistent and otherwise fine, the noise reduction just seems a bit overzealous (it filters out cars and footsteps as well to the point that people can’t tell I’m outside, which is nice at least). I’m not from Germany either, although my carrier hasn’t been able to help.
