Fp6: not booting

Hello community, I need help!

I bought a new fairphone6. I installed e os from and followed the official guide.

It did not work with the installer (it stopped an 40/100), but I suceeded to install via the console.

Everything seemed to go well.

But as soon as I have installed all the apps etc., the phone crashed: it did not react to any command or button.

I tried a new start in recovery mode (volume up+start button). Retry did not work, so I resettet with the other option.

I did that several times, two times the phone worked for a few minutes oder two hours. Now the phone does not boot at all: on the screen I have the murena logo with the jumping point. And nothing else happens until battery is empty.

I tried to start into the recovery mode several times now. Sometimes I see a symbol of a lying android robot with an open heart. Sometimes the phone than suggest retry or a resert that swipes all my data - but non of these options helps. The message on the screen than is: error intiing user0 (something like that, unfortunately I did not note the exact words).

On the last try, the phone started, it recognized the sim and I succeeded to connect to the wlan. I took these chance to reset it in the settings: “zurücksetzen auf Fabrik-Modus” (reset to factory state?), confirmed all the warnings about cancelling my data - and:

Nothing changed, the phone does not start, I see the Murena-Logo and the jumping point.

What to do now to safe my phone?

If you see that screen (does it read “no command”?), it takes one more step to proceed to the recovery. I think you need to briefly hold the start button and briefly tap the volume up button to proceed.

OK,thank you for the immediate answer! I’m going to try that the next time I come to this point.

At the moment the phone restarted again (after serveral tries). What can I do to avoid the issue? Re-install e os? Reset to factory state did not really help it seems…

Please can you tell us exactly what is installed as [HOWTO] Give complete /e/OS version info easily for support, answers, comparison etc.

I there any chance that you had any Google account, password, screenlock or PIN on the phone might lead to frp? In which case reinstall Fairphone Android would be the way to go in order to eliminate these.

Sorry, at the moment I can’t, because the phone does not boot .

I followed the instruction from here ( /e/OS official FP6 download ) and downloaded the last offical download (IMG-e-3.3-a15-20251210556408-official-FP6.zip [MD5 | SHA256])

How could I reinstall Fairphone Android? At the moment, I lasts on the screen with “murena” logo…

Thanks for confirming the build.

You should be able to install following https://support.fairphone.com/hc/en-us/articles/18896094650513-How-to-manually-install-Android-on-your-Fairphone (or /e/OS) providing you can boot into Fastboot mode, that is Bootloader.

With the device powered off - hold Volume Down + Power

Edit. I should have asked, did you or did you not relock the bootloader after the install of /e/OS?

.

What about booting to the other slot

fastboot set_active other

Then reboot ?

.

Alternative solution, update / reflash the system :
are you able to boot into recovery-e from bootloader ?

or
from your /IMG-e-3.3-a15-20251210556408-official-FP6 folder

fastboot flash vendor_boot vendor_boot.img

and

fastboot reboot recovery

Then, choose apply update and run

adb sideload e-3.3-a15-20251210556408-official-FP6.zip

https://images.ecloud.global/official/FP6/e-3.3-a15-20251210556408-official-FP6.zip (not the IMG one)

Thank you! I try to restart - it worked sometimes (and than only for a short time). After pressing start+ vol. up for the recovery I got the message “init_user0_failed”

choosing “factory data reset” sometimes works to start, but most of the time not

I locked the bootloader after installing e, but I tried to press “about the phone” 8 times and enabled usb dabugging, the last time the phone started.

Thanks. It is difficult to tell in which direction you would like to go now. There were many useful suggestions from @piero but no feedback :slightly_smiling_face:

Just so we know, please can you confirm that you can reliably reach Fastboot mode from

and also please provide an answer or guess

I’m going to try what piero suggested and will give feedback!

No google account (why choose e!?), no password, screenlock or PIN - everything I once installed has allready gone.

What way to go? The one that should help….

Reinstall e or go back first?

Uff….

I succeeded to reinstall e , it worked without any problem (following this instruction: Install /e/OS on a Fairphone The Fairphone (Gen. 6) - “FP6” - not with the installer).

I relocked the bootloader and started to set up the phone.

After a few minutes the phone shut down, restarted - after another few minutes shut down again without me doing something. Than it stays stuck, I have to force a re-start (pressing power button until it restarts)

Could this be a hardware problem? It’s a brand new phone

Could pieros ideas help more than my complete re-installation?

This would depend on the responses you found from @piero’s commands at the start of Post #7.

Possibly.

Yes, absolutely. They form a “troubleshooting sequence” which would be useful to follow.

thank you!

I reinstalled e os, the phone crashes after a few minutes…

What does “booting to the other slot” mean? What does the command do?

And you suggested an update, but I allready installed the newest version?

(Pour moi en francais serait bien aussi)

how did you that ? from fastboot or from recovery ?

on A/B devices, the update is installed on the inactive slot, then the phone switch on booting the other slot.
so if you faced a faulty build, you can revert to the previous version by switching slot again.

the command is explicit.

i wrote “update / reflash” because the feature is called “apply update” in the recovery manager menu.

from fastboot - just re-followed the instruction. But there are still the same problems….

Phone crashes, reboots, sometimes stays stuck and I have to press power until it retries.

So I suspect a hardware issue…

try with applying a factory-reset

What do you mean exactely?

In the settings or when the booting does not work and there is the choise rerty or reset - cleans all data?

from → settings → system → reset options
or
from recovery → factory-reset
or
from bootloader using fastboot-w

Does “from → settings → system → reset options” not only delete all my data (which are gone allready)?

Does that really change anything in the brand new installation?

… not really - same issue as before. As soon that the screen goes off, the phone shuts down.
