I have seen the press release (the 1st supported tablet) and the release note for 2.6. The open question: How to handle a tablet with /e/os 2.5 installed?
According to the old install manual, the bootloader is not locked. So, is it a good idea to lock it now?
Is an OTA update to 2.6 planned?
How to update firmware?
Is a manual update from 2.5 to 2.6 possible without losing all data?

Read last post in this thread (post 6):
Hello,
I hope I’m in the right place.
I saw on the phone list that a new version (2.6.3) is available for the Xiaomi redmi K20/Mi 9T, which I have in version 2.5.
But my phone doesn’t offer me to upgrade to this new version 2.6.3.
I check the installation page: Install /e/OS on a Xiaomi Redmi K20 / Mi 9T - “davinci”
But! For the first time, I see that my phone needs a very specific “firmware” for this new update, which wasn’t necessary before.
On the installation page, there are 3 choices …

Locking the bootloader makes only sense if you use official build because OS upgrades will be available. With a locked bootloader you can’t update.
I guess you are on T as I am. My device also has no T so far. We might need to report it in the feedback.

That should come with the recovery, but I don’t know how to check that.

Look like you are on the comunnity branch,
There will be no more update for T, you need to upgrade to U
This is not exact…you can update for a newer version builded from the same branch (so same signature),
but you can’t change branch
or
/e/OS official → /e/OS community
without unlocking, so formating /data

As usual on a Gogol device, find instructions and files there : תמונות היצרן למכשירי Nexus ו-Pixel | Google Play services | Google for Developers
