Google Maps broken in 3.6?

I’ve put a question mark because all my issues started quite a bit after installing 3.6

At first I had trouble with third-party-apps losing connection to their respective servers on both an FP3 and FP5 using /e/OS 3.6 (starting March 28th). When deciding to give these apps a hard reinstall, I couldn’t download them in App Lounge. I’ve since found out that logging out and back in with my Google Account in App Lounge fixes this.

Yesterday, Google Maps started not being able to connect to its servers. microG works fine in YouTube (the only other Google service I still use), but not here. Readding microG accounts, deleting app data, reinstalling Maps and rebooting my phone (so all the standard stuff to do) hasn’t improved anything. This issue replicates on the FP3 (where I wasn’t using Google Maps).

Edit: Forgot to mention the Google Maps version I’m using, which is 26.13.06.887680004 (same as the one mentioned in the bug report).

Hello,

same here. I have FP5 with eOS 3.6 (Updated many days ago)
Since yesterday i can not use google maps. Google maps error message: “No internet connection”.
Reboot, Cache clear, re-install of google maps: No change.
Everything else works fine.

Edit: cfm01 phone same problem.

Update:

“My” Google Maps Version:

Working: 1068495387 (Downloaded 19.3.2026)
Working: 1068495399 (Downloaded 20.3.2026)

Failure: 1068505957 (Downloaded 1.4.2026)
Failure: 1068516913 (Downloaded 3.4.2026)

I do not know if there are any version inbetween.
These are just my information on my downloaded versions.

( not a solution, but while it gets sorted GMaps WV can help Google Maps users to have an alternative they’re used to )

Replying to give my +1 and also confirm this issue.

I am using version 11.155.0103 (1067793820) and it seems to work fine on v3.6. That’s an older version than what you used though. I froze that version and no longer update the app. But maps work well and I see no reason to upgrade. For regular use, I use GMaps WV too.

There is fortunately already a bug report: Google Maps not working after updating to 26.13.06.887680004 · Issue #3375 · microg/GmsCore · GitHub

It can hopefully be easily fixed. Be aware that a possible fix may take one or two additional months until it shows up in the microG installation of /e/OS.

You may use Aurora Store to downgrade Google Maps, or (temporarily) use an alternative.

Is there a way to revert back to an older version of Google map for the time being?

You can use Aurora Store, which is similar to App Lounge. It is available in App Lounge because it is an F-Droid app.
When you have opened the overview of an app, you can select the three-dots menu in the upper right corner. There, you can enter the version code of an older app to download (if still available).

Unfortunately, I do not know the code for the older version of Google Maps app. Maybe a user here can help?
See other messages in this thread for working versions

so much for a quick and dirty work around.

but what is the solution of the issue and when will it be implemented?

a fix already landed and I’m sure the next /e/OS release will have it

Hello,
are some new news?
Today we have eos 3.71 on our Fairphone 5 phones. Does google maps work again?

Official eos 3.71 has microG 0.3.13.40226-27

But in this post at githib Release v0.3.14.250932 · microg/GmsCore they say that the issue will be fixed at version v0.3.14.250932

What’s Changed

So has some tested google maps with eos 3.71?

Edit: On an cmf01 phone with eos 3.71 google maps works, but I don’t know if the cmf01 was ever affected by that bug.

Thanks.

The /e/OS issue

is marked fixed by a point release of micro-G rather than need to wait for micro-G 3.14.

Thanks for finding this detailed information.

I’ve checked it myself, and the latest version of Google Maps (1068560288) works fine on FP5 with EOS 3.7.1.

As far as I’m concerned, this issue is resolved.

Thanks
