How do I back-up & with non-functioning app lounge?

Hello

Samsung Galaxy SM-G960F, build number e_starlte, Android version 11

App lounge no longer works. Everything else seems fine.

I want to back-up my phone in order to upgrade. Please would someone help me to do this, step by step, without jargon?

Currently, I think I understand that I have to use either the cloud (which I don’t particularly want to use), or an SD card.

Which SD card to buy?

How do I then back up when I don’t have the app lounge working?

Thank you.

You can do it manually, it’s the only way I do it.

Back up messages, contacts, in my case Signal messages. Save them to a folder like documents (some apps will not backup to downloads). You will also have to back up photo’s. Look in DCIM and Pictures for them. Note all your apps.

Connect USB cable to a PC and the phone, then and search setting for USB. You will see “USB controlled by” touch it and then select file transfer. The PC will pop up the phone as storage, explorer the storage for where you backed up the contacts and such.

You will have to determine what other data you want to back up, in most cases the apps provide for that.

Do you also know your email addresses and passwords?

Back up as much data as you can. But personally I only back up critical data and just start the phone new with a backup of contacts and messages. Sometimes I put the pictures back other times I leave them on a PC or USB stick.

Once the above is done decide if you are happy with backed up data. Come back and ask here how to do a reset.

There are other methods than manual, maybe someone else can comment before you do a reset.

Please let us know, as Jets wrote there might be other solutions. Maybe just upgrading the OS

Ah, okay, thank you mihi. I wasn’t sure how much of that info I needed to include.

Hi Jets, and thank you, but unfortunately when I link my phone to my PC, the only thing it will save is my photos. It doesn’t seem to want to upload/save/backup anything else. I am deaf and I have a load of phone calls saved via Relay UK, which is a text messaging service. There are one or two I would like to keep. Also, my contacts. I think that’s really all.

Well, it is a bit long, but when you read it all … Android version dependant … this bit:

If this is an SMS text system … please try this, on your phone only; no PC involved.

Messages app > Top left 3 bar menu > Backup and restore > Create new Folder > and so on …

But you really need an SD card installed on your phone so that you save this data “off the phone” in preparation for your Upgrade.

Hi aibd, thank you.

Yes, I think I have to get an SD card. This is straightforward, is it? I don’t need to go for/avoid any particular type?

Once I have one, and inserted it into my phone, will I need to download and use any apps to get it to work as backup, as my app lounge is not working?

Yes, when you buy the SD card just tell the seller the phone you want to use it on … there are many to chose from, but a medium priced good brand card from a reputable seller will be just fine.

That sounds too complex. You will simply aim to Copy certain important things to the SD card so that after the Upgrade you can restore them back again.

OK, great. I will get an SD card and see if I can backup on it. And no, the text relay service is via an app, not SMS’s.

Ok so my suggestion does not help in this case, sorry. If this is the system you use:

I see no suggestion as to how to back up this app. Perhaps you could ask through “Contact us”. In this case, your data may be stored, ask them.

Maybe an “own backup” is not required as they may keep recent data backed up in the event, say, that you change your phone.

Absolutely no need to apologise. Thank you for your help, and your suggestion to contact Relay UK, which I will do. SD card is on its way, so I can continue with this in a few days’ time. Thank you.
