Installing /e/ OS on Pixel 5

Hello, I recently purchased a Pixel 5 and am in the process of installing /e/ OS. I have gotten as far as downloading it on my computer but need help after this step. Would anyone be able to assist?
I have it in fastboot mode but this message is displayed when I try to go to the next step

Error on step: connect-bootloader

Cannot execute command connect bootloader
The device is not connected Failed to connect: Cannot connect Bootloader

The phone is disconnecting via USB after this step. Is there something I have to do with the phone to keep it connected via USB through this step?

Regain your privacy! Adopt /e/OS the deGoogled mobile OS and online servicesphone

If you use windows maybe another driver must be installed.

I’m actually installing via Linux.

Did you allow unlocking (OEM in developper options) ?

Did you unlock the bootloader ?

Yes, OEM Unlocking is enabled.

Do I still need to install drivers to allow the install?

Not on Linux if I remember correctly (which was years ago).

Maybe explain more, at which point you are, etc. Via Telegram Char at the same time an ther user is also installing Pixel 5

I’m on Step 10, that’s where it’s getting stuck with the message

Error on step: connect-bootloader

Cannot execute command connect bootloader
The device is not connected Failed to connect: Cannot connect Bootloader

Like I said, the phone is disconnecting via USB at that point.

Here is no ā€˜10’.

Oh you are on the installer, right?

Yes, I’m on the Installer.

That one is fairly new, please provide some pictures where enough is visible to know where you are stuck.

The previous tool was often not working as expected.
This one not yet works as hopped !

Sorry, I have no coding skill to debugg or improve them… (even simply adding more devices to the supported list that i liked to do…)

I was able to install my Fairphone 3 back then with the easy-installer, I remember. But yeah, people often complained it doesn’t work as intended…

I will be able soon to test the installer on the web (just for trying out purposes), I’ll let you know how it goes.

@opensource As Piero suggested, manually is also an option. Pixel is not that difficult. As the guide says, read the guide couple of times and be sure to finish preparations properly (plattform-tools).

Here is where it gets stuck

The phone disappears when it gets to this step

Does it really switch to bootloader?

Should look something like this:

No, this is what’s on the screen

Yeah, looks a bit different but both are ā€˜fastboot mode’.

I don’t know why the installer is complaining. Sorry can’t help you.

We can see that it is still locked,
so you did not the unlocking step that is prior to anything (when tools are installed)

I have OEM unlocking enabled, do I still have to enable something on my computer?

  • Boot your Pixel 5 into Fastboot Mode:
  • Turn off the device.
  • Hold down the Power and Volume Down buttons simultaneously until you see the bootloader menu.
  • Use the volume keys to navigate and the power button to select ā€œFastboot Mode.ā€
  • Connect your Pixel 5 to your computer via USB and open a command prompt window in the platform-tools folder.
  • Enter the following command in the command prompt:
fastboot flashing unlock
  • You will see a message on your phone asking if you want to unlock the bootloader. Use the volume keys to select ā€œYesā€ and the power button to confirm.
  • After confirming, your phone will reboot and the unlocking process will begin. Once completed, your bootloader will be unlocked, and you can proceed with further customization or rooting your device

I got as far as an installation screen but was I supposed to hit ADB Sideload on the phone when it said to? Now I get this message when I try the installer again

Cannot execute command connect adb
The device is not connected Failed to connect: Cannot connect ADB Cannot read properties of undefined (reading ā€˜deserial’)
