Is the LibreLink app possible on /e/OS?

As a diabetic it is important for me to be able to use the app LibreLink for measuring bloodsugar levels. Is this app available for me when I switch from an Android phone with google to Murena /e/OS?

Do you mean one from https://www.freestyle.abbott/? Listed for me as UK, I tried to install it but got a pop up saying “Not available for this device” an email was given adchelpuk@abbott.com.

This is not a definitive answer as both App Lounge and Aurora Store seem to be subject to interruption at the moment.

Thank you for your help. I will wait a bit so that this app by Abbott might yet work if this Aurora app store is restored.

I sent them an email anyway then read the manual https://freestyleserver.com/Payloads/IFU/2024/q1/ART47667-001_rev-A.pdf. The Sensor device uses Nfc.

Checking on my phone I see Nfc unsupported, so if the app checked for this, then the app is correct.

Thank you. Yes the app works with nfc, but what do you mean with ‘unsupported’? I do not yet own a Murena, but I am contemplating buying it, if the app works on it. The app did not work well at all on the Fairphone 2 that I used to have.

I assume the hardware is not present on My Motorola G7, it says online “only some versions of this phone, sold in certain countries, support this feature” I never had cause to use or test Nfc.

I tried on another phone this time it installs. When I try to open it I get a notification “FreeStyle LibreLink licence check” – the check seems never to complete, it seems very much as I see here: Freestyle Libre Re-think... | Page 2 | Diabetes Forum • The Global Diabetes Community.

Thank you again. I have a Gigaset GS4 since 2 years and the app works on it, even though this phone is not mentioned in the FSL documentation. So it may be that the app works on phones with NFC, but on some phones better than on others (on my Samsung which I use for my job it works well, but I do not want a Samsung; on the Fairphone 2 it did not work I think, I forgot!).

Well I think the app will require Nfc … then there is the business of a “Google check” mentioned in the link above, this would suggest that the app will not work in its present state on a degoogled phone. I took a log of the app crashing after installation

I see the checks for Nfc one might expect but what looks like a particularly crude check for Google

W ActivityManager: Unable to start service Intent { act=com.android.launcher3.WINDOW_OVERLAY dat=app://com.android.launcher3:10112/... pkg=com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox } U=0: not found

(which seems to be saying that a Google Search box was not found on my phone) just before exiting.Edit I later discover, maybe this is not so crude, but if I understand correctly this is a method for checking the app against a register held by Google.

Micro-G should probably be able to handle this – this test was from an older phone with micro-g version 0.2.27.223616.

Okay thank you. I am glad I have a “reader” to read the sensor, and not only the phone. But in emergencies (when I forget the reader) it is good if a phone can be used to read the sensor.

I have a pixel 6a that is NFC compatible.
I managed to install the freestyle libre link by Abbott on my devices through applounge, and could complete the setup.
I do not have the freestyle patch so I could not test if this works, but at least the app seems to run fine on a NFC compatible device.

Hope this helped. Good luck !

Thank you! Yes it helps to know which phones work and which don’t. I will keep it in mind.

I see that there is a Gitlab issue for this product.

Within the issue is mentioned as the blocker App Licensing  |  Android Developers

The more recent Freestyle Libre 3 also has a Gitlab issue Freestyle Libre 3(com.freestylelibre3.app.fr): app doesn't open (#5874) ¡ Issues ¡ e / Backlog ¡ GitLab.

Thank you. I ordered a Fairphone 5 with e/OS, but I feel a bit as if I am making the wrong choice (I ordered it because of fairness and environmentalism, the battery of my Gigaset GS4 is no longer available), because this is an important app for lots of diabetics with FreestyleLibre sensors.
I asked the helpdesk of Volla phones in Germany (before I ordered the Fairphone), and his answer came after I had ordered. He said he can download the LibreLink app with Aurora on his Volla, but it needs a google account (" Selbst mit der aktivierten MicroG Funktion nicht.").

I wrote to Abbott too to ask them about e/OS and access to the app.
(no response yet).

I wonder if I can make an exception by using my Google account to use LibreLink in e/OS, or do I have to change the whole OS on my new phone?

I cannot add to the Gitlab discussion without making a new account, but it is not solved yet (and it is more than a year old).

It depends.

If you have to connect to a Google account in the app, it most likely will work just fine.

If you have to connect to the main google account registered in the phone settings, it might work fine thanks to e/os and microG.

You’ll have to try and see, but I believe it can work !

Keep us posted !

Thank you Jabsu, I will!

I received my new Fairphone 5 with e/os yesterday, and I installed the LibreLink app, using my google account, and I am glad to say it works!
Thank you to all.
