Issues with new Murena CMF Phone 1

I just received my new CMF Phone 1 from Murena, and I’m having a couple issues.

One is that I can’t view any “common” apps in the App Lounge, and “open source” apps don’t install after downloading. I ended up having to sideload both Aurora Store and Aurora Droid in order to download GPlay and FDroid apps, respectively.

The other main issue I’m having, and arguably a bigger issue, is that I’ve installed a MicroSD card, but it doesn’t show up in the Files app, there was no notification to set it up, and as far as I can tell it’s just not being detected. The card is a 1.5 TB SanDisk Ultra microSDXC UHS-I card. The package has an Android label on it, indicating compatibility, and also has A1 and V10 logos. And from what I’ve read, the phone supports up to a 2 TB card.

What is the normal way to set up an SD card in /e/OS? Are there any utilities that I can use to test the SD card?

Well this issue just magically cleared up today. So that’s something.

Your symptoms look a bit like App Lounge hangs on many "common" apps.

I did check about your 1.5 TB SD card. I saw conflicting reports that such a large card would work. Maybe only a certain spec of such a large SD card is supported, idk, ?? UHS-1 is a spec for supported devices, I think.

You don’t have to sideload apps to install them unless it’s something specialized that requires it. Just tap on the apk file from the Files app. Unless you’re confusing sideloading with that. Sideloading is done from recovery.

F-Droid provides apks for every app they list so anything open source you can install manually outside of the store. Though installing through the store automates the ability to update through the store. Still it’s not that big a deal because open source apps don’t update that often.

That’s unlike stock Android and Google Play where every app updates every other day. The update frequency with Google Play on stock Android is insane and totally unmanageable if you don’t leave it on auto. So then your battery drains like crazy from constant updates. What the hell are those people doing that they need to update apps so frequently.

Why are you installing Google Play. That defeats the whole purpose of running /e/os. Just run stock Android if you’re going to do that. You should be using App Lounge or Aurora Store for Google Play apps.

I don’t have any help to offer on your SDCard as far as the phone goes, but it’s not uncommon for those to go bad out of the blue so I would check that first. Maybe try formatting the card first using EXT4 with another device.
