When using messengers such as Signal or Conversations, many devices are unusable for video calls due to an echo caused at the other end. (E.g. FP4, Moto G7 Power, Moto E).
I would like to compile a list of devices which are ok in that respect. I only know of one, the Moto G4 Play (harpia). This is a very old/rare phone now, are there any other ones??
Its a real shame the Fairphone 4 has this issue , otherwise it’s a great phone.
Oneplus Nord 5g seems to be ok.
I am glad to report another one that works:
Samsung Galaxy S9 (SM-G960F, “starlte”).
It’s a sleek phone from 2018 that also isn’t quite as large as current ones…
I’ll have to do some new testing but last time around my Teracube emerald and Essential PH-1 are also OK. But I also use some workarounds that may have helped.
There’s a testing site that may help in diagnosing call audio issues.
I did the echo test on the Teracube with XMPP. No echo.
Tried with SIP / Linphone and I get an echo.
Guess it is time to recheck the devices that use XMPP and/or SIP for calls.
