Locked out after charging?

I set up last week on a OnePlus 7T phone, since the I’ve been learning and setting up and doing fine, but tonight i CHARGED. and then it suddenly wanted pin instead of fingerprint, but it won’t take the one I thought I set before I set up the fingerprint (which has been working fine until now).
I’m starting to panic, what do I do now??

You mean you charged the phone? Did you just try hitting the right arrow at the PIN prompt?

Yes, I charged the phone.
The arrow? The one that’s supposed to make it go forward after you input your number?
It’s not going anywhere without a pin… is it supposed to??

Looks like I’m not the only one to ever have this problem but… still not sure where to go with it

I just reread your original post, you did create a PIN, so you have to enter the correct PIN. The phone will lock to a PIN level and the fingerprint will not work, until the correct PIN is entered, this is a security feature.

I think I did? I must have right? But there’s only one I can think of and it won’t take that.

So maybe you made a typo when creating the PIN and then set the fingerprint, the phone was unlock-able with fingerprint until the charge. This will also happen with a reboot, the phone will force you to use the PIN, you need the PIN.

If you don’t have a lot of data on the phone just reinstall the OS or try to figure out the typo.

Ugh. I was afraid you would say that.
I guess I know what I’m doing tomorrow.

Actually you are lucky the phone is supported by the eOS web installer, should not be too difficult.

If you use command line you do not need to install the eOS recovery just eOS as the recovery is already present.

It’s been a while since I did a Oneplus install not sure if you can just reset the phone without the PIN, if you could you will just need to create a new PIN and good to go.

Good luck hope all goes smooth

You are sure it’s the unlock pin, and not the SIM card pin?

I have a Oneplus 7t pro and my device sometimes reboots when chsrging. Subsequently needing the SIM pin first.

There’s no SIM card in it. I suppose that doesn’t mean the OS isn’t asking for one, but there’s no SIM card in it.

well this doesn’t bode well. gonna go digging for how to get it into recovery mode…

yeah, factory reset. back to the drawing board, just when I had it all set up. :frowning:

can you tell me how to back the whole thing up for next time?

Is this easy-installer at work?

Looks, maybe a Windows PC ??

… then perhaps a drivers issue? [Solved] Windows does not see my phone in Fastboot mode

yes, but no. easy installer on linux.
but apparently phone is unauthorized and I had to factory reset.
