MDM support in /e/OS

Is there any way to contribute to /e/OS so there would be a way to install an MDM application and support Android Enterprise?

I see there’s a community demand: Mobile Device Management (MDM)

Headwind team is happy to contribute and I’d acknowledge to get any guidance!

Ha ha that’s what was said in 2021, a few short years later Request to remove installed MDM software.

Isn’t that now behinde ‘Workprofile’ in the microg settings…?

The request came more out of users getting strange messages that their Smartphone is administrated by someone tven though it wasn’t…

It was an intention of Murena & /e/OS 2025: another leap towards Usable Privacy for All. I read @Headwind’s comment as around vox pop.

Oh, it looks like Murena has already launched its MDM solution (based on Headwind ) Happy to see that!

Are you a part of the Headwind development team.

Yes, I represent the Headwind development team. I’ve flashed /e/OS on my test device (Pixel) and I see that /e/OS setup wizard doesn’t seem to have a managed provisioning option (installing MDM by QR code after tapping 6 times on the welcome screen). This is something we already implemented elsewhere so we could help with that option.

so there is demand as a corporate user to include MDM software and on the other side as a private user I would highly prefer an e/OS without any MDM related software.
Would be cool to have 2 separate builds of e/OS to meet these requirements.
Happy Christmas everyone.

Happy Christmas @wiz! As I understood from analyzing the /e/OS MDM options, currently there’s an item “Mobile Device Management” in Settings. Clicking this item installs an MDM agent, without any option to undo (Device Owner app can’t be uninstalled). So here’s a risk of unintended MDM installation with a potential privacy compromise. Also, there’s no choice of the MDM provider - a user is forced to use Murena MDM agent.

On Google-powered Android devices, MDM installer is hidden (you need to tap 6 times on the welcome screen), and you need a QR code containing a special JSON generated by the MDM provider. Additionally, MDM can only be installed on an uninitialized device - once the setup wizard is completed and a phone may contain private data, MDM installation is locked. Here’s no risk of unintended MDM installation and privacy compromise! So, if this option will be implemented in /e/OS setup wizard, there’ll be no need of two OS builds.

Could you elaborate about this what it means?
