A secure peer-to-peer comms with no traces in the cloud, no phone no, no user-id, no email from Skred. download from App Lounge ( https://www.skred.app)
Another French company with privacy at it’s core like Murena
Yes, thanks, I just looked it up.
Skred is free to use - there is a paid version if you want the ability to transfer calls to web browser and some other non-essential features
the problem with proprietary code is that you cant read it and thus no one can verify that promised behavior is the actual behavior of the app … You must trust the owner of the code.
Thanks, Jets
I think I looked at Signal before and it requires your mobile phone no. Call me paranoid but I like the anonymity behind Skred - no phone no, no email, no identifier - just gives me that extra assurance of privacy
I think, you still need a phone number to sign up for the service, but you don’t have to share it with anyone else. Once you have an account, you can create your own alias and share only that with your contacts.
Sure but, as I said, I prefer a service not to have my mobile phone number or to save/route messages on/through their server which I believe Signal does?
Skred is fully anonymous and peer-to-peer encrypted Comms, no server routing or storage involved
In what way is it different from Element which also does not require mobile phone number or email, is secure and is actually Open Source Software so you can check the source code and verify promised behavior?
I prefer Threema arrangement, already you can obtain an anonymous license either by paying by Espece or BTC (if you have not put the KYC information).
Be careful I do not say that Skred is worse, it’s purely personal.
For me any business explaining that they are remunerating with donations, this is not fine. It is either it is paid directly or it is paying in another way that no one will see.
This is also good that it does not require any particular information like the email address, then it is only open source on the encryption part and not entirely open source like Threema.
I add in addition that video calls and generally send are completely encrypted before it is active, you have to see how skred works on this subject, whether the full system is encrypted or not.
Without going in the Message War because there are so, the day there will be a Messagery not even recolting the IP, the phone use, even a chouillat riquiqui to give I go directly haha
I don’t know the technical details and as you say only by looking at the source code can claims be verified but I like the idea of peer-to-peer messaging rather than handled through a server. And yes, they claim all data is encrypted.
This seems to be the kernel:
“Most messaging apps send messages immediately, storing them on centralized servers. This means they control your conversations, keeping records that could be accessed or exploited. SKRED does the opposite: messages are only transferred between users in real-time, ensuring true end-to-end privacy.”
