Microphone not working on fp6 e/os 3.3

Hi all,

the microphone stopped working on calls and most apps apart from the camera where it works fine.

This happened around the time I installed the JBL earphones app, but I couldn’t say it’s related. I deleted the app and it didn’t change anything…

I tried everything I could find in the settings even following various threads online, nothing will do.

I even did a factory reset and the problem persists. I never reinstalled the JBL app.

I also try to install a different phone app and still didn’t work.

I tried contacting Fairphone, but the only way is to open a help ticket, that was 3 days ago and still no reply…

So far I can call and be called using my Bluetooth ear buds but it is frustrating.

This was posted last summer on the same issue https://community.e.foundation/t/main-and-rear-microphone-not-working-on-3-0-2-a15/71834 I would have posted on it but it closed down 10 days ago (before I had that problem)…

Although the person says that Fairphone sent them a new phone and I don’t understand why since the problem is obviously software related and not hardware…

This is getting very frustrating, can anyone help please?

Still no news from Fairphone customer service, this is appalling… Anyone got a direct line by chance?

In the mean time I even tried to install the google phone app but still no mic on that one.

If you bought the phone from Murena then you can ask here: Contact Us

If it is from Fairphone withm/e/OS then I don’t know how it works.

Here, you are on a Forum with 99.99% users. @Manoj is almost the only one and acts as an interface. Maybe he can clear up what support wise can be done.

If you have purchased the phone from the Murena Shop then you can send the details on the Contact Us form. If already done pl share the ticket number here and I can ask the Murena helpdesk to respond ASAP.
If the purchase is from Fairphone then you have to contact their support team. They support teams on both usually respond within a few days based on the number of tickets in their queue.

Thanks Manoj for offering but I bought it through Fairphone.

I tried the “chat with an agent” this morning but agents are only available from 10 to 12am, I was on wait but none could take me. The AI agent is useless.

I’m surprised I’m the only one that happened to since last summer, otherwise the others got help from eslewhere?

I’ve been a Linux militant for nearly 20years so I’m used to this sort of bugs an issues and I usually find answers on the ubuntu forums. I understand Murena is still young and the community less developped so I can put up with the discomfort but with a brand new device I would have hope for a minimum customer service…

In the meantime, does anyone know how many microphones there is in the fp6? And which app uses which?

I’m trying to work out if it is really software related.

The microphone works on the camera app when I do recordings with both lenses and the front camera.

I’ve tried several recording apps and none work. I’ve tried several phone apps and none work, nor on hand set mode nor on loud speaker.

I must admit I haven’t tried whatsapp as I don’t have an account and really don’t want one. I thought of trying zoom. I’ll have a go at zoom tomorrow and let you know. If anyone got suggestions about apps to try for troubleshooting purposes, I’m all ears.

The app Fairphone checkup community.fairphone.checkup will test the microphones.

Thanks Aibid, according to checkup they both don’t work…

But in checkup they are called Primary and Secondary mics, so I’m not sure what that means

On my Moto 3.2-a15-20251024539369-community-ocean I see this explanation within Checkup app. It might vary by device, idk.

Reporting this to Fairphone customer service might help escalate your ticket, but one can always expect several days delay in response.
