Murena 2 users 3D print your own protective case

Yes, this is a very disappointing situation.
Thank you, @LittleTurtle, for the information on the measuring tool in MeshLab.
When I asked for the CAD drawing of the phone - I meant the reference for a [yet another] case design (which I could attempt unless they delivered what was promised earlier) rather than something that would help me verify any existing case design by comparing it to the CAD drawing of the phone enclosure.
It is sad to read the camera bezel is not thick enough. Hard to believe, really.

Those excuses you mention at the end - as @SSD pointed some time ago:

Well, as @Manoj recently clarified - the design for a 3D printout is a separate effort (by the team @ /e/OS while the factory which was supposed to manufacture the case would also be responsible for their case design. If so, I would expect a significantly longer period until the batch is done and shipped to those who await delivery.

Long before the production of the phone the sizes are already known. They should have made an Solid works drawing (or something like that) to produce the phone. I don’t believe the story about production issues of the case or other excuses. That’s why I posted my doubts. I really regret buying the Murena 2 phone.

If there really is a problem, I think you should be open and clear about it. My feeling is that I am not getting the whole story and that I am being misled. And I don’t like that feeling.

These are my thoughts about the issue. (My phone is for sale if anyone is interested)

Yes, I feel the same. Something isn’t exactly right here.
When you look around and start noticing more strange issues surrounding Murena 2 (like the one with the camera focus not working as expected) the overall picture gets even worse.
My feeling is there are only a few people in Europe (France?) making some general decisions, like, for example, how to allocate funds and where the design and production activities should be outsourced. Then, they deal with those who do the work and don’t deliver on time, or deliver stuff with bugs. Not a good situation to be in, I imagine.

The vendor who was manufacturing the phones did not supply the back cover protectors. There were also complaints about the camera quality.
We took up the back cover issue with the vendor, who has till date not given us firm answers.
As such, we are moving ahead and will be getting the back covers 3D printed from a different vendor. Will share the dates when we will have the back covers ready for distribution to users.
Based on the learning from this, we are also looking at different manufacturers for future models.

OK, but hold on there, @Manoj! When you say:

you don’t mean the camera focus issue, I hope. This has to be solved in the software
(if it is the software bug) or ehmm… a recall of the phone if the camera module has a hardware fault, right?

There is an open issue around this in Gitlab. Once the developers pinpoint the reason for the camera related issues we will share the resolution.

I know it is discussed on Gitlab. I have been monitoring the situation there and seen some interesting tag re-hasing over the past 48 hours, or so. Hope, it does NOT mean a hardware bug!

OK, got the announcement in the e-mail (via KickStarter). If this is the situation, I need a confirmation of which particular design (blender project as I understand it) is being processed further and which material is going to be used for the production of these protectors. We already know the materials that are a definite no-go, so this request is for verification purposes.

3D is better than nothing I suppose, hope you will improve on the files linked on this page. The bezel is not thick enough on the stl file - and the button slots don’t seem right on the blend file - (haven’t checked its bezel).

blender is an unfinished project of the 3D case (“for experts only” as alluded to by @Manoj ). STL-s are pseudo-code (lets say) for further post-processing in a slicer, which, in turn, produces the “machine code” (G-code) for a given model of a 3D printer. Hope this helps.

I hope the logo and slogan on the back (essential! after all this is Murena, built with Privacy-In-Mind!) shall be proudly presented. Problem is: those objects in blender are too small and even a little nozzle (caliber 0.2 mm) cannot reproduce the fine lines correctly. Those two objects have to be enlarged a bit and the designers should work with the machinists (3D printing specialists) to find the proper balance between size and readability. Similar note applies to the button holes. The designers shall cooperate with the ergonomists to get the proper shape of the holes (conical, I think) so there is no obstruction and the biometric scanner can be used with ease. Mechanical engineers should have a word when it comes to the walls with many holes in them - as they tend to lose their stiffness when the parts of material (especially TPU) between the holes are to tiny / narrow. This is especially important near the top edges. It seems the design is not trivial at all (to make the case decent for the users).

(CAD drawing of Murena’s enclosure)

it has been nearly two weeks. What is the status?

There are no updates. We are awaiting receipt of the 3D screen covers from the new vendor, which should start coming in by mid of may.

When you, @Manoj, say the covers should start coming in by mid of May - you mean from the vendor to Murena, correct? If so, sadly, this doesn’t match Murena’s own announcement on Kickstarter which they posted on Apr 25 2024 at 9:15 AM:

As of yesterday, we’ve switched gears to Plan B: we’ve ordered 3D-printed Murena 2 cases, that are planned to ship out from the factory by May 6th.

Unless the vendor is so far away it takes more than a week to get the cases to Murena (located in France, I presume?).

Also, when you say “no update” (on the CAD drawing of the M2 enclosure - not to be confused with the protective case) - does it mean Murena would not share that with us? If yes - why? I really would like to get it for my own future projects. Thanks.

@Manoj Could you provide us with an accurate 3d model of the Murena 2 phone so I can make my own protective case and print it my self.

As you may be aware, we have contracted a different vendor to create the 3D back covers and the first set should be going out to users by mid of this month. We have not received any size specifications from the vendor. We will request them to share the measurements against which the cases are being created. Will update if we receive the measurements.

I don’t need the sizes from the vendor. I want to make my own case, therefore I need the an exact 3d model of the Murena 2. Can you provide that to me please?

Yeah, exactly. @Manoj? You said in the past you would ask Murena about that. So, what is the status? Will the 3D model of the Murena 2 enclosure be shared with us here? Thank you for your understanding.

What is the current status, please? Have the first cases been shipped to customers yet? Has MURENA received them from the vendor? What is the situation?

The updates have already been shared here Users should start receiving the cases in a week.

I might have missed how this works, but who gets the covers? Is it the ones that have bought the Murena 2 or have they been ordered separately? If so, how can I order one, they are not on the store.
