Murena cloud selecting which folders to backup

Hello e/OS community,

So, recently I started using e/OS and murena cloud. I had to disable photos and videos sync, because I don’t want that. However, I would like to keep the Documents/ folder synced. Is it possible?

Or I may reframe the question, is it possible to create a custom folder and sync it with the murena cloud?

Unfortunately not, I think. But you can install the Nextcloud app, and set it up for selective sync. The nextcloud app is a bit more refined than the e/drive app. Hopefully the later will catch up soon enough.

I am using syncthing for a simple “almost cloud, but it’s my home computer instead”-type of solution. I’ve heard about nextcloud a few times already, so maybe this is a good opportunity to learn about it.

The thing that leaves a bit of a sour aftertaste in my mouth is that we already have a cloud filesharing program, why does it not have this simple functionality as well? That way I would not need to install another program. I already have murena workspace, which is perfectly capable of backing up files already.

You can use Nextcloud desktop app to connect to your murena workspace.

You can also do the same in your smartphone, using the Nextcloud app to connect to your murena workspace, not another new account. Nextcloud is rather a standard than a provider of cloud.

Unfortunately, both desktop and smartphone apps are not very refined and are hard to use satisfyingly in practice. For example, if you want to change the windows folder that is used to save an image of your online cloud, you will have to uninstall the Nextcloud app and erase all installation folders and AppData hidden folders to erase config files. This will probably be solved one day but it is certainly not the quality of big competitors like Onedrive and Google etc.

Same for the smartphone app, most people will want one unique function: to synchronise pictures somewhat selectively and not in full because of the Murena cloud storage space limitation. Unfortunately, the option that does exist in the app to select only some folders for bi-directional sync do not work well enough in practise. The only advantage over the base murena-/e/OS sync function is that it might delete online a picture that you delete locally and was already uploaded to the server.

Let’s just hope that with some time, Murena will improve the integrated function. I think Manoj said this request has been acknowledged and added to their backlog.
