My new Fairphone5 /e/OS by Murena cannot access the website of German VR Bank Hochtaunuskreis

I can access the homepages of other German banks but not this one. What’s wrong here that the /e/OS by Murena either refuses to access the bank or the bank refuses to access /e/OS by Murena?

Is this the page in question … just checking If I (or others) can reach it

https://www.meinebank.de/startseite.html

Opens fine in UK.

Browser 131.0.6778.140

Have you tried experimenting with Advanced Privacy ? I tend to take the view that this is Really_Advanced_privacy, not all settings are appropriate for everyday, perhaps.

Using the deflaut web browser, I am unable to access the website from my personnal profile (strong privacy settings) but I can access it from my professional profile (less strict privacy settings).
So my guess is that it may depend on how your web browser is configured.
The main difference between my two browers is the parameter “Websites data on the device” (approximate translation from french) that is “allowed” on the one that works.
To find this setting :

  • open your web browser, then go to the 3 dots menu (top right) then open the settings
  • under the “advanced” section, choose the “websites parameters”
  • under the “content” section, find the “Websites data on device” parameter and turn it on (see screenshot attached)

Sorry for the translations that could be inaccurate !
Hope this helps :slightly_smiling_face:

I have a Fairphone 5 and could open it with Murena Browser as well as with Firefox
Location: Germany

Opens in my S7 (v2.7) in default onboard browser and in Brave,
Advanced Privacy Tracker Blocker ON and personalDNSfilter on top
Location: Germany

I also can’t reproduce this behavior, the website opens normally with /e/OS’ standard browser on my FP5 (2.7-t-official) with Advanced Privacy only blocking trackers.

Thanks both @Sebastian + @obacht - I’m a first time smartphone user. I don’t know what a “S7” in app v.27 or a “personalDNSfilter”. I use Browser duckduckgo, don’t know either whether Advanced Privacy Blocker is on or off, nor how to change that feature either in settings of F5/Murena (to date Android 13) or those of the browser, for that matter.

OK, no problem

for a change first try the onboard default browser (that blue button with the lighter circular area in the middle - named “Browser”)

Then it may secondly be worth the try to completely switch Advanced Privacy (if interested: click for more detailled info) OFF (in case one or more modules are ON)
System Settings (that grey button with a gear wheel) → Advanced Privacy → there you find 3 slider-switches for “App Tracker”, “Location” and “IP-adress” (or the like … my settings are in German) → all of them should be OFF (= greyed out)

correction I am using onboard default browser, just the search engine is duckduckgo

have set it back to /e/spot

OK, but the search engine should not be the crucial part here…

have turned Advanced Privacy off - should I now try to access the bank’s site again?

yes, do so!

which modules have been ON?

Thanks a lot to all who answered, problem resolved!

Now … you may experiment with App-Tracker ON - It should still be possible to access the website (works in my phone)
I consider this module/function to be the most basic privacy protection in Advanced Privacy. (as proven by your problem: both other modules can be more tricky in everyday use…)

Done + more thanks. The only problem that remains now is I cannot download said bank’s app from Play since G keeps telling me my G-account wasn’t connected with the device - but it is, I have given the new tel no

I cannot help much with banking apps but it may well be possible to get this app without the need to log in to “Google Play Store”…
try to find it + install in App Lounge (the white button with a colorful “A”) which provides an anonymous mode as well.

Also if problems with banking apps occur, there is a dedicated thread: [LIST] Banking Apps on /e/OS
