No SMS notifications

Hi,
Since I updated to 2.0 and now to 2.3 I don’t receive notifications for SMS.
It is exactely the same but as this one .
Note that I am using /e/ on a Galaxy S7 pre-installed with /e/ from the foundation.
The notification button is grey for messages and I can’t change it.
Any help would be very welcome !
best,
Vince

The default SMS app Messages does not use the default (system) Notification. The notification is set within the app itself.

Open the app, top left 3 bar menu > Settings > Notifications > Notifications Tap to customise. Now it is a little unintuitive (the heading is default) the switch appears greyed out but you can set Sound and Vibrate.

Hi, many thanks. I’ve checked all that everything is on but I don’t get the notification. Niether any sound nor any light nor anything in the notification bar.
There must be something i do wrong.

Did you check and listen to the sound you are setting for use? It is possible to set “Silent”.

The light on my Moto is slightly complex, it works for me, but that is set in Notifications.

Note that we had a thread here about missing notification sounds which has been closed for absolutely no reason some days ago. I made an ordinary case about that problem (seen there).

But the problem here seems to be more general when also no LED and no entry in the notification area do occur.

Yes i checked the sound and changed it to be sure. I get absolutely nothing when a message arrives.

This may be of no help but I had this problem after updating to 2.3 and I discovered my Do not disturb had been turned on. Kind of obvious but the thing is I never use it which is what threw me off

Hello,

I’ve just added myself to the list of users experiencing the same problem. I haven’t received any notification despite all the checks in the menus provided for this purpose.

I’ve installed QKSMS until I can fix the problem.

Hi,
You are also on a galaxy s7?

I too have a S7 but i’m not experiencing this issue at all…

Hi @aibd and @Vincer.
The SMS app on my phone is the default one preinstalled on my preinstalled /e/ phone refurbished S7.

Just to make this clear and simple:

  • the sound is on
  • the phone is not in “don’t disturb” mode
  • in parameters/applications → “toutes les notifications de message” (all notifications from message) is activitated (button switched to the right) but greyed out. Under “Other”, next to the bell icon under the title default it says “about 1 notification per week” but right to that there is also a button switched to the right but greyed out. The notification bubble is authorized (button switched to the right and green). Minimum time between notification sounds is set to “no restriction”
  • when opening parameters/notifications/parameters of the apps, I get to the same screen as described above
  • under parameters/notifications/ bubbles is activated
  • when opening “notifications of the device and the apps”, I see blisslauncher and spotify under " not authorized. I dont know exactly the function of Blisslauncher. Could this be the problem?

Now, when I go into the menu of the message app

  • I have message version 3.10.1
  • in the menu general/notifications, “display notifications” is activitated (button switched to the right) but greyed out.

NOTHING happens. This starts to be a real problem because people obviously think I am aware of the message sent, while I dont actively monitor SMS messages.

Note that I do get a notification icon at the top of the screen when I receive a SIGNAL message.

THANKS for getting back to all of us as soon as possible  Or should we turn to the app provider who owns “message” ?

Check another app, just for a test. You should try one not derived from QKSMS. In F-Droid you could find Deku SMS which is completely independent. If this works you could use it as a workaround.

Hi ,
I upgraded to 2.4. But this didn’t solve the issue. QKSMS works fine. Thanks for the tip.

I see exactly that. (This within Messages app Settings.) What happens when you tap and change “Sound” as shown

in this image?

I have tried that too. Without any positive result. Nothing changes.

Do you hear the sounds (in the selection panel) when you attempt to make a change?

Another question is: do you have generally no sound for SMS notifications or does it come after a while?

What about other notifications? I have notifications sounds when I plug in a cable or when I pull the charging cable out. I missed them too. What about mail?

I still assume that this issue here is related to mine. Meanwhile I made a case for that.

Hello @irrlicht,

Thanks for your reply.
No sound at all for SMS notifications, neither immediately, nor after a while.

Other notifications are fine (Signal, e-mail, when I plug in a cable or when I pull the charging cable out).

Hi same for me other application notify correctly. The problem is confined to the sms app.
