No subscription app payment possible?

Hi,
In short: How can I pay for my dating app subscriptions?

I got a murena fairphone 5, and I find it hard to get my head around some bits. I am trying to pay for a dating app subscription, and I get an error coming up.
First of, my card details are updated. This is definitely not a banking issue (same problem with two dating apps at the same time), but somehow with murena / fairphone.
When I press suscribe it says:
“Error
Your transaction can’t be completed. To complete your transaction, use a different payment instruction, or contact us.”
-I have contacted them (the apps), and they say the issue is on my side, whatever this means (again, card details, funds etc are sufficient).

Another payment option: PayPal, for some reason, will go blank (white screen, doesn’t go anywhere) when I put in my details.

After the error message, I get another popup saying: "Play Store error, A user billing error occurred during the purchase process. Please insure that the playstore app is updated and that your payment method can be used.

Help. Thanks.

Hi @Kal welcome to the /e/ forum.

Perhaps first to check

Settings > System > microG > Play store services > Handle billing requests

You can also try to buy directly from the website of the dating site. This way you don’t make Google any richer then they already are

thanks that was already switched on. no success unfortunately.

You might also check out the use of the app / site with “Add shortcut to Home screen” as How to install OkCupid app?

Thanks but none of the two sites in question has that option. You can only buy subscriptions via their app, and that immediately leads to the error reports I laid out before. One of them is Hinge btw, which is very well known, and I assume, there must be a solution to my problem.

if microG fails you, a workaround for previous Android owners that have the old device still around: use it to manage Google Play Store licenses / subscriptions

Thanks, this is my 1st Android.
But this must be a common issue. I imagine a lot of people go for paid versions of for example Hinge. But I can’t find this topic being discussed before. Is there no customer service, only this forum?

Why yes …

Hinge gets a medium to low score here Report for co.hinge.app 9.89.0 - εxodus

Congratulations :slightly_smiling_face:

you mean subscription service payments or (dating) app compatibility in general?

/e/ definitely needs a dating app Epic (meta ticket to track their status)

Did a quick test with Bumble, unfortunately this does not work either
