Notes app doesn't go beyond storage selection

When i open the app, i get the option to choose local notes or a nextcloud server. No matter what i choose, it tries to load and goes back to the same screen.

Note i have the murena.io account on the phone and the nextcloud client has another nextcloud server setup. When i choose cloud storage it shows both, but none really work and also doesnt the local storage.

Already cleared cache and data from the app and stop/start

While i am empathetic to the difficulties the team has been through, this is an independent issue.
It’s a notes app, should work as a notes app.
Should work locally, if anything, because it says local is an option.
If the notes app is locked to the cloud service that should be clear and then i’ll choose if i want to work with a vendor that wants users locked to their eco system or a vendor that is open and sticks to values it preaches.

the “locked to the cloud service” is accidental in nature, a bug, it really does have a working local mode.

Over the years I’ve seen many Notes issues and poked at the source code how it works. I’d use something else.

Bug exists

Just use the working upstream NextCloud Notes app (from F-Droid) instead of /e/'s broken fork

they’re both a bad choice for robust note taking

I strongly disagree. The NextCloud app, and its desktop equivalent QOwnNotes have served me very well for several years. It may be bad choice for you, but it has been an excellent choice for me.

we had that conversation before - the architectural weakness of nextcloud-notes is its internal sqlite store that is hard to recover from in case of failure. Having a file-based notes app (device side) has many upsides
