I see Nothing CMF phone 1 has quietly dropped off the builds list for A15, even though it had an official build for A14 (and the hardware is officially compatible with A15).
Does anybody know what is the reason? I was planning to buy one as my new phone, but seeing as it didn’t get any A15 upgrade (not even community), I am disinclined to spend the money, until I understand if this is a “temporary hiccup”, or a change in strategy for /e/OS, in regards to the Nothing CMF phones.
Note; sorry for putting this post in the wrong category, but the category selection menu is an absolutely b**ch to use - it just wouldn’t show me any other subcategory in the /e/OS devices section, and its search function just doesn’t work anymore…
Yes the tetris Nothing CMF phone 1 will get an A15 build.
I do not usually add names of devices we sell on the upgrade-coming-to-these-device-lists because the devices we sell or sold are by default candidates for OS upgrades. The only reason builds are not showing up for these devices is they could be failing as for other devices due to various reasons. Also the official builds are OTA upgrades which are complicated and require some development which we plan based on resource availability.
I see there are some phone models (e.g. some pixels) which show A14 official and A15 community.
Does that mean A15 official is on its way, or these phone models have stopped having official builds at A14 and any future builds will only be community?
I would suggest that user should not assume we are stopping any builds or discontinuing support for any device unless I put out an announcement on this forum or there is any message on the channels.
All builds which are due will be released. Some failed. Those that failed will be re attempted and released when they are successful.
I searched the forums looking for the original announcement for end of “official” support for Samsung S9 (as I know this was dropped from official to community), but have not found it.
So where would such announcements (about support changes to a phone model) be made? In the “Announcements” section (under "/e/OS foundation & community), in the /e/OS Devices section (under the appropriate manufacturer), or somewhere else?
This is an important question and a reoccurring issue I’ve been facing (and I’m sure I’m not the only one struggling with this) - for the last 6-8 months I’ve been researching to find a new phone that is on /e/OS’s long term support plan (ideally under official build), is available in my region and supported by the local carriers (I live outside US, UK, EU), has VoLTE working (at the end of this year 3G calling will be disabled on all carriers in my region), and has (more or less) the desired specs.
… to make a long story short, I am struggling to find official information about these details (unsupported features, supportability, support roadmap/plans, etc. for each phone model), in the forums. Either I don’t know where to look, or this information is not present and complete (so we - users cannot make an informed decision when buying a new unit).
