Names of the devices which are selected for sale are shared through the newsletters we send out. The selection process of devices for sale on the shop starts with the testing for compatibility with /e/OS. For refurbished devices we check for availability of A+ quality devices in large numbers. If a device satisfies all these conditions it becomes a candidate for sale on the shop. Will pass on the feedback on the Pixel 9 to the team.
So there’s a team for the Pixel 9, that sounds promising. I plan to buy a Pixel 9a direct from Google once it’s supported by /e/os. The 9 and 9a use the same SoC so it should follow, yes?
I don’t buy second hand consumer electronics, that’s a hard policy for me and I can afford to buy new. Still I don’t like to waste money on features I don’t need so that’s why I want the 9a over the 9, better value for me. I can get Pixel phones from other retailers, Best Buy in the USA sells them, but Google is still getting the wholesale.
I don’t have a philosophical problem with buying Google hardware. I mean they’re a big evil corporation but so is just about every other maker. The only way to avoid corporations like that is to go live on a desert island. I do have a problem with the way they design software, but /e/os gives me the option to get away from that.
I understand that, but the 9a released to retail only a couple months ago where the 9 released last year. LOS supports the 8a and 9 presently so I expect the 9a to follow at some point, after all the hardware differs only in the camera sensors and memory capacity. Anyway it’s not like I’m going out to buy one tomorrow. I’m thinking more like next year.
Thanks, @Manoj . As they are commenting in this thread, the Pixel 9a would also be a nice inclusion in the Murena shop due to the better price/value than Pixel 9.
I’m also interested in the Pixel 9a and I also like to keep phones for a long time so battery replacement is a consideration for me.
Very few modern phones offer an easy battery replacement. There are some such as the Fairphone, Shift Phone, and a couple HMD phones, but Fairphone and Shift Phone are not readily accessible to me in the USA and HMD phones are not supported by /e/os. Too bad the HMD Skyline is not supported, it’s a really nice phone and I’d likely go for one of those over a Pixel 9a.
I’m fairly handy with a screwdriver, but I feel most battery replacements are over my head, too much glue and too much risk of breakage. That being the case If I were to keep a 9a long enough to need a battery replacement I’d just go to a professional, there’s actually a good number of cell phone repair shops around me. In that case the difficulty of replacement is going to be moot.
Looking at videos of battery replacement, it looks like there’s little difference between the 9 and 9a. It could be that the 9a has more stubborn battery glue, but all you have to say is glue and I’m taking it to a repair shop.
