Official download sources for Samsung Galaxy S8 [SM-G950F] not available?

Hi Community,

I am new to the use of /e/OS here. I suppose the mistake lies with me as a dummy “user” … ;-(

Unfortunately, the easy installer does not work for me.
I get the following error message for the /e/OS compatible Samsung SM-G950F:
“Could not check/validate the files for transfer errors” - directly after starting the download within the easy-Installer …[see screenshot]

Where is the error: with the easy-Installer, with the download server, etc.?

Thanks for your support & assistance!

Hi @webworks welcome to the /e/ forum.

The list of devices supported by Easy Installer is here Try the Easy Installer beta. Your phone is not supported.

Looking in Smartphone Selector the phone Info about Samsung Galaxy S III (International) - i9300 is marked “Legacy”, that is to say

Warning: Devices marked as legacy will no longer receive any updates from the /e/OS team. In the future, some devices may still get updates with support from the community.

The install instructions are found Install /e/OS on a Samsung Galaxy S III (International) - “i9300”.

Last month /e/ experienced a server outage a side effect of which is that “older builds” are not found on the servers. When the ROM is available again this will be the link https://images.ecloud.global/dev/i9300/ but it shows “Not Found” at time of writing.

Searching UnOfficial Builds finds [UNOFFICIAL BUILD] Samsung Galaxy S III I9300, I9305 for /e/OS-Pie

Hi aidb,

Thank you very much for your detailed explanations, which are easy for me to understand technically!

But I made a mistake by myself: The Samsung Galaxy model in question is the Galaxy S8 SM-G950F with SnagDragon CPU and this model is supported according to the overview …

From Info about Samsung Galaxy S8 - dreamlte we see

SoC: Samsung Exynos 8895

and

Models Supported
SM-G950F
SM-G950FD

The SnapDragon CPU is used for instance in USA and it has a locked bootloader, for instance SM-G950U – comparison here Galaxy S8 (SM-G950F) vs Galaxy S8 (SM-G950U) | PhoneMore.

Maybe you encountered this open issue: [dreamlte] EasyInstaller Checksum-ERROR e-latest-dreamlte.zip.sha256sum (#7225) · Issues · e / Backlog · GitLab.

… or Samsung Galaxy S8 easy installer download problem

… or search the forum hashtags Easy Installer and easy-installer – as mentioned in the link above Easy Installer may be quite difficult to debug for this issue at this time.

I suggest best to resolve the SnapDragon issue first, there are hardware info apps which you can install to reveal details.

This is exactly my problem, which I also have!
I had searched the forum for the wrong Samsung model, and therefore found nothing, my mistake …

Thank you very much for this appropriate hint in the forum, so I’m not the only one with this problem, therefore not a ‘beginner’s’ mistake

Perfect timeline for me!

Hi aibd,

the installation guide for the [UNOFFICAL BUILD] works fine for the Galaxy GT-I9300. After the /e/OS Installation, booting-up to the Android-Level worked, but the Home Screen is not loading, it shows only an “Samsung Galaxy is loading” Message in front of the nice background picture …

How can I downgrad to a previous [UNOFFICIAL BUILD] version? I tried it in the same way as the frist installation, but the adb siteload process is stopping after 5-10 %

I suggest it might be best to add your feedback to the thread of the ROM builder, @ronnz98.

Hi community,

I would like to install /e/ on my S8 using the Easy Installer. From what I understand, the Easy Installer attempts to download the image from this address, but the image has been missing since the outage.

Additionally, there seems to be an issue with version 2.5 of /e/ for the dreamlte: Development Update.

Would it be possible to re-upload an older version of /e/, like version 2.2, so the Easy Installer can work properly?

Thank you!

I have the same problem, an working “Easy Installer” for Samsung Galaxy S8 was announced here in the forum for the last weeking, but unfortunately it doesn’t work in the meantime … more information you can find here:
