Hi Manoj, I have a remark regarding tablets. I have an unofficial /e/ build on my tablet. It works really well, everything functions, except there are a few minor things that need to be fixed in the bliss launcher. If those are fixed, the build is fully OK in my opinion. I’m willing to be the maintainer for the build for this tablet, so my suggestion is this: if the /e/ developers can fix these issues in the bliss launcher on tablets, then people from the community can volunteer to be maintainers for the build. This would give /e/ its first officially supported tablets!

also samsung s4mini is to be added it is fully working with official lineage sources, i think even lineage 17.1…

what is the advantage of locking the Bootloader?
I was thinking of avoiding someone to flash another OS to spy on you or get your data, if your phone ends in malicious hands for example.
If done right no one can tamper with you device without you noticing it… At least with physical access…

Just a comment : looking for a new device for 5 years use, I notice that a lot of supported d/e/vices are 3, 4 years old or more. So, there factory’s support will stop soon…
A lot of more recent devices are not supported yet. May GSI be a way, to /e/, for extend support over devices with a better “life expectancy” ? And offer the /e/xperience with more recent android’s version ? To sold /e/phones, they have to be up to date…

Thanks for your feedback @trefix. As you may have read in this thread these are some of the points we discussed last week. We are looking at the possibility of have GSI’s updated OTA. Which would make it a viable option for users with slightly old devices which are no longer vendor supported. With OTA users may have to flash it manually every time and that could be a tedious process. Installation of GSI through the easy-installer is another option we can look into.

Unfortunately no decision on this as yet. The reason causing this delay is we have a long list of devices which we want to stop official support - reasons being the same as mentioned above. This delay is becoming a bottleneck for some other decisions. I will be discussing with the team on Monday (tomorrow ) and try to get a closure on this soon.
I think this is a good decision to streamline the list of devices. Of course there will be users unhappy with some decisions but focusing on the proper hardware is important.
Please consider having officially supported Phones, Notebooks (like the Pinebook, Olimex which work already) and also Tablets, so for every class there will be an alternative to choose from.
Also keep some older devices on the list if it’s possible (like Samsung Note, Nexus, etc.). Some of those are still in use by many people and it’s good for marketing if you can tell that google stopped support years ago but thanks to e they still work perfectly (protecting the environment and the users’ pocket).
Pinebook hasn’t been available for months, Olimex is a fun craft project. To provide manpower and resources for this means to save money elsewhere.
The devices list of the near future has to be reduced according to the available manpower and resources. As a one-man micro, small and sole proprietorship businesses, GrapheneOS shows that it can manage four devices of a device family with all its strength. The main developer of The LineageOS Project “haggertk” is similar.
So the calculation is a very simple one - and in the end about 25 - 30 devices for /e/ OS v1 can be considered. Some of them still have to be mograted to /e/ OS 9-pie.
Hi. I am mostly interested in unsupported devices (e.g. Suzuran) and devices currently stuck on Nougat (Condor, Sumire) because LOS have stopped supporting them from 14.1
I’m happy to build ROMs for these devices, and for other devices in a similar situation if requested. The important thing for me is that the officially supported / recommended build tools continue to work for these devices. So it would be good if, in the new world, there could be some kind of CI/CD testing of the backwards compatibility of these tools.
I realise this may be quite an effort but, to me the issue of keeping old devices functioning and avoiding the planned obsolescence of many manufacturers is very important.

Well according to the /e/ documentation, it’s Docker. I believe this is what is used to build supported ROMs and in the CI/CD pipeline.
It’s also really easy to use with cloud compute resources, which is helpful if you have an internet connection that takes a couple of days to do complete a repo sync
Again I’ve left this rather late, but I would love to see support for Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact (lilac) See the specs on GSM Arena. It is compact (4.6" screen), waterproof, runs Oreo out of the box and is upgradable to Android 9.0 (Pie).
It’s not officially supported by Lineage, but there are several unofficial Lineage 17 ROMs availabe
Finally the porting of /e/ Source code to Android Q / Lineage OS 17.1 has started. No ETA’s as yet on completion of activity. A new code base should be showing up soon … v1- Q
